Doom is awesome. Everyone get it, or just replay it on your pc/mac and remember how good it was/is.

I've been really enjoying playing through on 'Hurt me plenty' on the XBLA version, some bits towards the end of each episode have ramped up the difficulty, nothing that a few attempts haven't sorted out though. Any way, I finished the 3rd chapter and started on "Thy Flesh Consumed" yesterday (on 'Hurt me plenty') and its bending me over, spawning itself and spit roasting me. I can't get over how tough the first section is on this chapter.

Was it me getting tired, being a poofter, or has anyone else out there had similar experiences?

Post subject:  Re: Doom

Nope, I'm having exactly the same problem. I can't even complete Chapter I on Thy Flesh Consumed on HMP difficulty.

Isn't 'hurt me plenty' the normal difficulty?

You all rubbish.

Post subject:  Re: Doom

I've completed the first three Episodes fairly easily. Thy Flesh Consumed is just ridiculous, though.

Post subject:  Re: Doom

Yes, that's what I don't get. For some reason the first bit on "Thy Flesh Consumed" is a piss take.

Very tight map, start with pistol then a shotty very little ammo anywhere, a teleporting Baron of hell = arg!

I also think it's rubbish. I think the health points and carry every gun type of FPS is much crappier than the regen and carry limited guns type.

Points to own "Complete all episodes on Ultraviolent difficulty" achievement. (Or indeed, the 200/200 Doom GS)

You big wuss. Just wait until later levels if you think the first one is tricky.

I'm part-way through episode 3 on Hurt Me Plenty or Ultraviolence or whatever you have to finish them on to get achievements.

Unfortunately, a combination of obscure mazes + health points instead of regen health = annoyance.

Not the mention the completely illogical stupidity of starting each episode without your enormous arsenal of guns from the previous...

It's not so much of a problem on the earlier chapters though as they ease you in gradually (we need a Frankie Howard Dimlie). "Thy Flesh Consumed" is just a bitch from the word go.

I WILL DO IT THOUGH!

I found the weapon switching put me off the XBLAH version something rotten. It was too hard to switch quickly to chainsaw for ammoless pink demon thing killings, then quickly back to something more useful to stop you getting swamped by the next enemies.

*Does not mention that he has, in the past, completed every single level of both Ultimate Doom and DoomII on ultraviolent starting with only a pistol*

Actually, I will mention it. I've played these games too much.

I am rubbish as fuck at Doom, but it is seriously one of my favourite games ever. It's scary, it looks like a heavy metal album from the late 80s, has awesome weapons... it's just one of those games that is bang on the money. I used to play it on my friend's Jag all the time. And my other friend's PC. And my PS1. Never got good at it though.

I can't get into those games where you have to look up and down. I do enough looking up and down in real life. What next - am I gonna get a game that forces me to do the washing up? Or that deducts national insurance from me?

Doom: does not deduct national insurance from you.
