I was hoping I could get some 6 year old friendly Christmas movie recommendations. Yes, it’s early, but I usually get a second hand Christmas DVD to watch on Christmas Eve, and they can take a while to arrive, and I like to leave time for planning things rather than leave everything to the end, so please excuse the Christmas talk. ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view! |

That said, I have a soft spot for Rob Delaney, so will see how he stands up. FWIW, our kids thought Home Alone 4 was absolutely brilliant (it wasn't). And it's surprising how (relatively) full-on the violence is in Home Alone 2. Flamethrowers and brick chucking. |

Narratively, it's meant to be the same Kevin from the first two films, but the parents have now divorced. Kevin runs away to spend Christmas with his dad and new younger stepmother. They have the kid just sitting there laughing his ass off as the thieves get "hurt". At one point the thief sits on a stove and is meant to be on fire but they just flash an orange light on his arse instead of spending any money on this made for TV film. |

Next year I will try and remember, and will swap it out for a little ‘movie night ticket’ or similar. |

HA4 looks like a true aberration. I did think it was a bit odd someone liking 4. I went a little mad last year and watch 49 Christmas films between Halloween and Boxing Day, hence why I watched it. There is also a Jingle All the Way 2 and a Christmas Story 2 in the obscure Christmas film sequels list. I had a rule where I had to watch all films in a series. The best Christmas film is The Muppets Christmas Carol. How could it not be? Although it has to be the VHS version with the "When Love Is Gone" song included. |

I am not sure how strict you are with age ratings, or how Darwin would take to it, but my youngest two were about 6/7 when they first watched Gremlins. My daughter thought it was a bit boring when she watched it though. |

Our kids really enjoyed the Christmas Chronicles, it has that little bit of adventure and wonder that kids dig, and is entertaining for adults too. Kurt Russel was really good as Santa. I think I was in a bit of a soppy emotional phase when I watched it so I found it kinda moving. Mimi wrote: I love Aisling Bea Who doesn't She's fab. MaliA wrote: Coraline. Don’t try and legitimise its inclusion. The action directly before the song lays out the situation and their feelings perfectly. The song is surplus to requirement. |

Home alone is great, but I'm not sure if Darwin is up for the amount of violence that is in it. It's silly cartoon violence but still We also love The Muppet Christmas carol the bestest and also love Arthur Christmas and also the Christmas chronicles and I would like to add Klaus, it's an animated one and lovely But basically the whole Christmas section on Netflix and disney+ and Katie is obsessed with Mickeys Twice upon a Christmas |

I’ll give Home Alone a watch before we show it to him, just to see if it’s a bit much. Which will mean I’m maybe going to have to watch it twice, but I’ll check it out. Thanks for the fair warning. I watched Klaus last year and really enjoyed it. Darwin was not so keen but I think that was more because he had other plans that day and was itching to create the world’s greatest Brio track. |
