I am changing role, and I need to work on secure accounts again. It means I can't use one drive for all my docs any more.

I am after an external HDD, that can be secure, possibly encrypted, to back up PSTs etc.

That leads me on to getting a safe, is this fella any good - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Yale-YSV-250-D ... 087&sr=8-7

I have not bought a safe before and not sure what to look for.

If it’s work related then you should be doing a risk assessment of your home and then find a safe that meets your requirements. I expect a risk assessment will establish that if your house burns down you’ll lose your data so maybe look for a fireproof safe. The one you’ve linked doesn’t appear to be fireproof. Or, if you live in an area that’s at flood risk, you could buy extra waterproof bags for your HDD and locate your safe in an appropriate place.

Hope this helps.

I dunno how "secure" you need it to be from theft etc, but my experience with Youtube lockpicking videos suggests that a 60 quid safe can probably be opened with a claw hammer or a wire coat hanger in about 20 seconds.

As you'll be at home all the time, the security of the stuff in the safe is limited to how many hammer blows you can take to the head without divulging the combination.

If you need these for things for work, shouldn't they be supplying them from a trusted source? I have an encrypted drive which has physical buttons I need to press a code in to unlock it.

:this:

Attempting to try and second guess what they expect you to get in terms of security requirements is a fools errand and, should the worst happen, is likely to leave you liable - in the company's eyes at least, if not the law.

Get them to either give you a written specification and/or some recommended purchases, and make them pay for it too.

I'd like to know just what Kov has to hide on this hard drive of shame! Seems excessive to me...
