To be fair, there's usually a queue at the Post Office.

Proper Jurassic Park vibes from this Guardian report.

The Guardian wrote:
The incident happened when an electric fence failed last July, allowing the herd to breach a wooden fence and hedge separating their field from the Smiths’ garden

I think today might be the last straw for Amazon, 5 items out for delivery with super glitchy map tracking... Said they were handed to the resident, even though I was sat in the conservatory and didn't see anyone. One of the things theoretically needed me to sign for it!

And Amazon are making it harder than ever to report apparent theft, including "oh it can take up to 48 hours to arrive after it says it did"... On a "premium" Prime delivery, where tracking did show the driver very close to our house...

I've pretty much given up on Amazon deliveries at home. I get everything delivered at the locker at the local Co Op. I don't have Prime, so having stuff go to the locker also saves on postage.

Turns out my packages had been dumped outside the garage two doors down. No knock (there were people in there too)

Good job we live in the middle of nowhere, nothing was perishable and the weather is nice!

A magpie and a male blackbird were having an argument in my garden just now. I would have thought the magpie would win that fight, but apparently me going out into the garden scared off the magpie, but the black bird remained.

Yesterday Amazon delivered me an air purifier. It was clearly addressed to next door, so since I live on a terrace I walked the few feet and delivered it to the right person, whilst waving at the delivery driver.

Tbf, I thought it was funny rather than annoying; their job isn't a fun one so I cut them some slack if they're not being terribly heinous.

In Horrible Corporate language news a bug linked to an issue I've been working got reassigned today with the note:

"Reassigned as previous user was end-dated on 15/06/2023"

It just makes me feel a little sick

That is grim. I'll have been back in work for a year at the end of July and that's enough, really. I'll not miss* "going forward", "ping" an email, taking offline things that can't be taken offline and constant "in terms of" (though I'll not escape the last).

*Am fighting the urge to correct.

Edit: Oh god, and the constant "jumping on" things. It's fine occasionally, but at work it's there too often.

Bloody typical.

I leave the country for one week and not only does Parliament decide that Boris Johnson is a liar but there's a highly important twist in the Archers.

Britain: stop doing this to me.

I agree with the sentiment, but I'd go for them crapping themselves every time they touch a keyboard for 48 hours.

1) This thing about sending voice clips rather than text messages is really fucking annoying.

2) this thing where one is having to queue to register to join another queue at a later date.

I wonder at what point on that submarine they drew lots to make the air last longer.

We had to accept that the first one of our 3 chickens had untreatable health problems. So long, Wattle. You were my favourite.

Dunno if we'll get another of the same variety of the 2/3 we plan to add to Thatch and Daub, who are still going, or try all-new.

I don’t know why so many people were getting worked up about the choice of controller.
They could spend a lot of money designing something from scratch or buy an off the shelf product that everyone knows how to use.

Anyway, it sounds like the hull failed, which was probably better than slowly suffocating.

Yeah, the US Military uses game controllers for all sorts of things. I'd probably have gone for a wired one, rather than wireless though.

Not sure how I feel about 'Armed Forces Day' as countries that fetishise the military are generally a bit weird and shit.

The thought occurred to me last night, while watching Raiders of the Lost Ark, that all of these movies and TV shows that have the Nazis as the main antagonists would probably have a very different feel to them if the symbol of the Nazi Party had been a cute fluffy sheep or something similar.

Counterpoint: The appearance of strength and power through symbology is so important to fascism that a fascist party with a cute symbol could never achieve any sort of success, and could therefore never be a valid antagonist for an action film.

Zuckerberg: "Hello, would you like a new alternative to Twitter with the promise of a fresh start away from the hate and the Ruski-bots and such?"

Me: "That's good!"

Zuckerberg: "Great! We're naming it after that horrifying film that scarred you for life, so whenever you see our brand name you're inescapably reminded of a nuclear attack on Sheffield."

Me: "That's bad!"

Zuckerberg: "But we've connected it with Instagram to make it incredibly easy to sign up and use and further promote your photography, so as you have an Instagram account already you can just hop in there."

Me: "That's good!"

Zuckerberg: "Only we're making it so that if you're troubled by (gngh) Threads for any reason in the future and want to delete your account, you are forced to delete your painstakingly built up Instagram account also."

Me: "That's bad!"

Zuckerberg: "Threads also contains monosodium glutamate."

Me: "... ... ... can I go now?"

Also, great, you've signed up and chosen to follow a load of people you know from Instagram, great! Now here's a feed full of other people people's stuff you have no interest in.

Also Meta literally know shit loads about my interests. The stuff promoted to me on Instagram is pretty bang on. Why is my threads feed full of stuff that I couldn't possibly be less interested in?!

Very much this! I like the concept but that's because I always liked Twitter. What I don't like is the fact that my entire 'thread' is full of people and stuff I really don't care about.

Maybe that'll improve when more people sign up but I have a strange feeling that it won't. Meta does seem very keen on promoting other things to me.
