Commuting is still bullshit.

My employer is opening a new office in Birmingham city centre. It’s lovely, and a great location, but it’s an hour each way door to door. My old office was 10 minutes away. I might do one day a week or fortnight.

Tbf, I have a lovely view from the office floor to ceiling window, and the commute door to door is 22 mins 17 of which are in a train.

That sounds like bliss. 22 minutes is an ideal breakwater between work and children.

I found a packet of Tesco Bakewell tarts, that had fallen down the back of a unit in my office. There are two left, and the best before date on the packet is the 11th of Jan 2023 (so they've probably been down there since before Christmas).

They are in their tray and in their wrapper, which is on the tray, but obviously open as 4 of them have been eaten. There is no obvious sign that any insects/spiders/mould has affected them, but the area behind the unit is dusty, and there were cobwebs near the box.

Who would eat them?

I work from home, however, it's certainly true that someone will eat them if I put them back in the house.

I almost certainly will eat them, but there is a small part of me, that is just a little disturbed by the thought of it

I love a cherry bakewell.

I'd eat one... Or both. Probably both.

I wouldn't have even hesitated to eat both there and then.

I've eaten them now, slightly odd taste, but I don't know if that was psychosomatic or not.

Main issue is why there were 2 left in the first place? If I open a pack of 6 they are all getting eaten in one sitting...

I can easily do that (and have done that on many occasion), but I would imagine I was interrupted by having to do some work

We've got a site in Porto, I've not managed to get over there but that's probably a good job with Pastel de Nata existing.

I don't know why British food is so mocked when european food is like that. It's a fucking meat sandwich drowned in gravy, served with chips.

Not that I wouldn't love it, of course.

A little thing, but I’ve finally got a firm ID on the big bird of prey that keeps circling above my garden. I thought it was a buzzard with my very amateur sight ID, but wasn’t at all certain because it’s always circling above me, at a distance. Once it swooped low overhead sling the canal and the sheer size of it surprised me. Today I could hear it and managed to get a clear recording and it is definitely a common buzzard, so I can tick that off my list.

We get multiple breeding pairs of buzzards living by us every year and let me tell you, they never stop being surprisingly enormous.

My idiot dog managed to accidentally leap off the harbour wall and 10 foot down into the sea yesterday, at about 10pm when it was freezing cold. Luckily I managed to drag her out, but the poor hound must have given herself one helll of a shock and she's spent today feeling very sorry for herself.

Cor. Did you have to jump in to get her out or were you able to reach her dry?

Luckily there were ladders down so I was able to go get her and fish her out of the water. She managed to hurt herself doing it so she's been zonked out of her brain on tramadol all week.

Oh gosh. That must have been terrifying. I hope you didn’t take a great risk of there is deep water there, but I’m glad she’s safe and hope the injuries heal quickly (probably quicker than the scare).

I think this pilot may be lost. Flew to Manchester area from Wittering, appears to have landed at Barton Aerodrome, maybe to refuel or go for a wee, then flew back and seemed to land in a field not far from RAF Wittering.

He very nearly flew over the house we had in Sale.
