That’s enough of a novelty to make it enjoyable. We went last Monday and it was full of people but empty of furniture. Didn’t manage to find any dining chairs, so panic bought an armchair and left again.

How many candles did you buy?

No candles but ended up having to go back two days later due to an Eket/Kallax mix-up. Ended up deploying the Eket we bought in error into my rearranged office room.

I’ve got one of the big 5x5 kallax units in the craft room. The footprint of the room isn’t big enough to build it laying down as per the instructions, so we had to build it standing up in situ. That was fun :DD

You're lucky you made it in the end! I've found that Ikea stuff is designed so that any intentional or accidental deviation from the instructions is ruthlessly punished somewhere on the last page.

Post subject:  Re: Bits and Bobs 51

I managed to run through the instructions in my head to make sure it’d be possible, as long as we tipped it on a footing edge and used those locking bolts with the hex key. Apart from that it was actually quite good as we could use the downward force to knock all of the dowel joints in rather than have to brace it to counter the force when it was laying down.

And this is why I have a bookshelf with the top and bottom pieces the wrong way around exposing the shit MDF that should be hidden, but that I absolutely refuse to fix.

Some of the newer stuff they have designed all just goes together super easy, no tools, just clicks into place. Didn't even have to hammer a million little nails for the backboard.

Post subject:  Re: Bits and Bobs 51

Those are a pain when you have to disassemble furniture for moving, because it’s almost impossible to get them all out without damaging the backing board.

First look at a new Steamworld game, on Eurogamer.

It might well be great, it certainly looks impressive. But it's not really what I want from a Steamworld game.

For me they offer lovingly crafted 2D worlds that provide interesting takes on different gaming genre. A shift into 3D makes me worry that that will be the defining innovation. Time will tell, I guess.

If you followed the thread from Shahid Ahmad a few months ago on his history of early gaming stuff (including JSW) then he's just started his second 'season' on twitter over the weekend.

Yes it would be much nicer to read this somewhere else but this is where you've got it so :

2 eps so far and he's dropping a new one at 15:00 every day.

I do like how he's playing with Twitter's limitations with sub-threads to create deeper dives and side notes. Very nicely done.

A Wendy's has opened in Oxford. Long been my burger of choice when road tripping in the US, and was pleasantly surprised by the one I had today.

Shame the fries aren't as great as Five Guys but for half the price I'm not complaining.

Oxford Mail:Aunt Sally hit by impact of Covid pandemic and pub closures

Poor lass.

I've fond memories of evenings playing the ancient Oxfordshire game of throwing large sticks at things, but never felt good enough to take it up as a hobby. Perhaps I should bring a set to the next Cottage - the lawn is, after all big enough, and the car park far away.

Had my first advent calendar cholate for at least 25 years. It was delicious, and even fumbling to get it out of the window gave me a mild nostalgia hit.

I'll have my first non-alcoholic advent beer from my other advent calendar later.

I don’t usually get an advent calendar as I don’t like chocolate, but this year I found myself a Haribo advent calendar, so I’m going to enjoy that.

Did you get a character advent calendar or one with a recognisable chocolate brand?

A Lindt one. Pretty tasty, even if I tend to associate them with Easter.

Does it count if you actively put it on? If so, I’m out as it’s on my playlist. If not, then I’m still in.

Due to me being a hundred years old I heard my first ever Ed Sheeren song yesterday. To be fair, I sought it out as it was buy Elton John and get Ed Sheeren free, but it’s a great song.

And the video is superb.

? Does he? Do you mean where he is being Mariah Carey? If you can’t see the humour in it and didn’t find it fun spotting all the 70s/80s/90s (etc) Christmas music videos parodied, then fair enough, but I thought it was fun and didn’t take itself seriously, and made me smile.
