Sony were doing 'compact' versions of their flagship phones at some point in recent memory, not sure if it's still a thing though.

I got one of them but it unfortunately had a terrible habit of overheating and shutting down. Was lovely, other than that though.

Does anyone know if there's a DekuDeals style site but for PC games? It occurred to me that I'm still buying most stuff from Steam out of habit and because it's where my wishlist lives, but if I had everything on a third party site with price tracking across more storefronts I'd be more likely to buy stuff at better prices from across a wider range. No idea if such a thing exists though?

I used to use https://www.gamestracker.com/. It does all formats. I think with filters you could set it up for PC only.

Is there any deal? might be worth a look. When I used to buy more PC games, I'd have my Steam wishlist synced to it and I'd get emails when they were on offer.

Yeah, I'd just come back to say I might've answered my own question by finding this; and the fact that it pulls your wishlist from Steam is a bonus. Now I just need to train myself to actually use it, which could be the challenging part.

TIL there has been a new £20 note issued about nine months ago and I had no idea.

I’ve got about 10 of the old style in my purse (d’oh). Are they still useable? What do you even do with paper money now?

Post subject:  Re: Bits and Bobs 51

Yep still useable in shops. They need to give 6 months notice before the old ones are retired which hasn’t happened.

Post subject:  Re: Bits and Bobs 51

Yup, they're still good, and will be for at least another 6 months - https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknot ... pound-note

I think most banks will accept them even after they're withdrawn, and the Bank of England will always take old notes.

I don't think you can access that secection of preferences from mobile view.

Edit the URL, where it says style=23 change it to style =3 (I think, if that doesn't work, try a different number)

I have booked a chap to fit a new boiler.

Going from conventional and tank to a combi.

I am quite excited. Just looking and mains water fed showers.

Post subject:  Re: Bits and Bobs 51

We did this a few years ago and it's great! We use the mains fed shower and it's almost powerful enough to take paint off.

We've also gained a big cupboard at the top of the stairs where the water tank was.. It's full of junk now mind you but it was the best money I've spent in this house.

Post subject:  Re: Bits and Bobs 51

We had a quote for this, but the second quote recommended we didn't go for a combi (2 bathrooms), but swap the cylinder for a pressurised one, and move it to the garage (where the boiler is), so we still get the space back (and wouldn't need the tank in the loft anymore), which was the aim anyway. The second guy appears to have disappeared though, so I guess it's on hold for now

I'd be interested to know what you paid/were quoted (we were quoted about the same for both jobs).

Post subject:  Re: Bits and Bobs 51

I have had 3 quotes

British Gad - £4000
Local plumber - £2800
Chap I am going with £1900

I was told I could just move the boiler and upgrade or go to a combi. I think the combi is more practical, well for me. .

Post subject:  Re: Bits and Bobs 51

Cheers Kov, our quotes were around that middle one, so maybe a bit more shopping around is called for.

Post subject:  Re: Bits and Bobs 51

We just spent £4800 on a new boiler, but £3k was the boiler itself - a worcester Bosch external oil-fired combi.

Getting rid of the hot tank and the hugely circuitous path from it back to the hot tap *right next to the boiler* is amaze. Especially now it's at mains pressure instead of a dribble.

You're both too far from us for a recommendation though.

They were till they swapped a lot of metal parts to plastic. They trade on their name.

They are not bad, just not as good as they were.

Installer at our last home talked us out of getting one, recommended a Baxi as much simpler so less to go wrong, compared it to a transit van. No frills and gets the job done. Also was pretty much half the price so we went with his recommendation :D

3 different plumbers have said that.

Like I said they are not bad, just not the gold standard.
I was told either Baxi or Ideal.

Ideal as they give a 10 year warrenty.

That’s exactly what they do. Any water heater system that retains even a small amount of water in a tank, in pipework or over-element system has to be set at over 60°c to kill off any possible biological toxins and microorganisms such as legionella, etc.

He meant to say his shitty boiler doesn't remove toxins. If anything it adds them. I'd say.

Mine "only" gets 7 years, and it gets that much because it was fitted, along with a system filter, by a certified installer. The biggest issue with Worcester boilers was the switch to fancy heat exchangers that get clogged more easily. Which is why they insist on a system filter to stop crud from your heating circuit getting to it. The installer also put an inline descaler on the cold feed, presumably for similar reasons.

Another big hurricane headed into Nicaragua. This is the year of repeat visitations for cyclones and hurricanes. Central Vietnam gets hit twice. The central Louisiana coast gets hit twice. And now Nicaragua is having a second hurricane plough in following the Category Four Hurricane Eta just two weeks ago, on pretty much the same stretch of coast. Incredibly though it's November Hurricane Iota is clocking in as a Category Five hurricane, as high as they go. These are almost unheard of this time of year, and for accumulated cyclone energy we're looking at probably the most intense year since 1932. This was has also explosively intensified over the last two days, dropping 60mb in pressure, and it's projected by some models to ride onto shore at 909mb. I don't think I can ever remember a November hurricane being so strong. Thankfully aside from one big town under-the-gun the coastline is sparsely populated as Nicaragua is smart and knows not to build cities in that part of the world - all their big cities are located well, well inland. But this is probably going to be another big rain-maker for Honduras and Nicaragua and cause more landslides, as their soils are already soaked from Eta. Hurricane Iota is at least mercifully projected to go into the Pacific away from the land after exiting Honduras, sparing at least the usual game of pinball this year as hurricanes careen about the Gulf of Mexico.
