I'm having a frustrating week at work and was looking forward to this evening because I'm off tomorrow for the weekend. Then last night, Jen started being sick at about 2am and that continued through the night so now I've just finished work feeling I've achieved nothing all week because working remote is great and all but worse than useless when there's a big issue in the factory that you can't visit because of travel restrictions. So now my relaxing early weekend is snookered and instead I'm trying to feed the kids and will have to negotiate bathtime and bedtime by myself, running on very little sleep.

I can see a Chinese for one and some beers in my near future once the kids are in bed.

Oh no, hope Jen gets better soon. At least you're off work now to sort things out.

Keep well away from her (until Tuesday ;) )

On the plus side, it gives me some peace to read more of the last hardback D&D module I bought and it looks like a good one to move the adventure to next.

Hopefully was just a 24 hour bug, seems better today and I’ve not come done with it yet.

I did indeed have a Chinese for one and some beers last night while I watched Masterchef, I’m a Celebrity, and read some of my newest D&D hardback adventure.

Day off today and oldest child is at playgroup so spent my morning sitting in a virtual queue for a PS5 (I didn’t get one) trying to get a console for my mother in law to gift to my brother in law at Christmas.

Treated myself to a nice waterproof jacket based on reviews saying the sleeves were a good length for tall women. It arrived today and I was very excited about it. The sleeves are perfect, but the jacket looks like I'm wearing a straight jacket so it's going back. I wish clothes companies made tall sizes for all their ranges, I have literally never had a nice waterproof jacket that I liked. I always end up having to buy from the mens range. :(

This one was £90 and let the water in after three hours of rain up Scafell. What would get me to five hours?

Literally no clue where that photo was taken, I just remember misery, and having said two hours before it was taken "be careful, as if we get cold, wet, and tired we will make poor decisions" and then two hours after it was taken we went the wrong way down the mountain.

Edit: that might be Bow Fell

You want a ski/snowboarding jacket. A decent one can be ‘spensive but they last; are water repellant; are nice and cosy and got pockets for days.

I got a great Superdry one from https://www.absolute-snow.co.uk/

I think there's a lot of waterproof jaclets where water will start creeping in after three hours of heavy rain. Berghaus are normally decent, though. Was that a gore-tex one? Sky's the limit when it comes to waterproof mountain coats though, if you want to splash the cash then Arc'teryx seem to be well regarded, or maybe just trendy it's hard to tell.

Russell is on a work’s online Christmas Bingo party.

Jesus. Aitch. Christ.

200 morons asking ‘can you hear me’ at once, some idiot playing music. Lots of feedback. One guy shouting, who I am sure is drunk.

That’s an interesting choice.

At least the bingo game has a potential prize of an extra week’s annual leave. I think otherwise Russell might have slipped off to make a sandwich in peace.

Joans' has his Christmas 'do' this afternoon.

He has been sent a box of wine (two full bottles and four half bottles) and some snacks. there will be a Zoom wine tasting led by a sommelier, then people can hang around for more drinking.

I am welcome to join in too. In the ten years that he has worked there, his colleagues have never met me.

Or is it fairly straightforward?

Further question:

How transferable are the coding skills, if you have done ages on coding for a bank, or market research, could you move to games fairly simply?

Certain things would come across to games programming pretty simply, but games programming is (IMO) fairly unique in that it has so many different things going on at once that have to be kept track of and interact with each other and stuff like that.

In the big ‘One Of The Stupidest Things I Have Seen’ file I keep on my desk is this new entry.

This is a friend that’s received this today.

Firstly, penalising kids/families that have had to self isolate or have been unwell during a pandemic. Secondly, incentivising going to school when unwell to win an award.

Thirdly... here’s a voucher off an Indian restaurant?!
