Summer's going to be coming up with warmer days, and we will probably be stuck in our tiny flat where the windows don't open properly.

Is there a good portable air conditioning unit we can buy from Amazon or that anyone can recommend that they use thay we could get to wheel around our flat?

I don't think one of the ones where you have to stick the hose out the window would be any good because our windows only open a crack at the very top, but it would be good to have something that can cool us down a bit rather than just blowing the warm air around.

Please help?

Air conditioners are like fridges, they don't make cold; they move warm around. As such they have to vent somewhere.

Could you make it work with something like these fabric window vents? https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=aircon+win ... _sb_noss_2

Failing that, you can get air coolers, like this one:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Igenix-IG9703- ... 033&sr=8-3
(link for illustrative purposes only, I have no idea if this one is good)

They have a water tank and/or ice blocks you fill up and airflow over a radiator. The water evaporates and cools down, and so cools the air as it blows over it. It's not as potent as an aircon but doesn't need an exhaust.

What doc said.

Venting is essential, if only you lived with someone who was handy with a sewing machine who could make a vent shroud...

We have one of those. It doesn’t work all that well. Slightly cooler than a normal fan, but not by much.

We've got a fabric vent like those in Violet's room (which, being on the second floor, gets very warm in the summer, hence needing AC, especially with the guidelines for babies' rooms saying they should be below 20 degrees C for sleeping). They work pretty well (although I had to replace the velcro, when I got it out of storage at the start of last summer), but ultimately it depends how big your crack is ( :hat: ) - it might work if it's not as wide as the exhaust pipe, but I'm guessing if the overall area of open window is smaller, you'd get some blowback.

I bought a mini desktop version of those water-based coolers. It was shit - better off with a decent fan, I think.

You will need to vent the hot air out of a window. How wide do they open, as you only need a few inches to get it out?

About 3”, but right at the top, like so (top of the window at the widest point is about 6.5ft from the ground).

Haha, thank you. I bought them over the course of two years from Morrisons and stuck some succulents in them.

Ok, something like this will do the trick. It’s got a long hose with a rectangular end piece that you can point down and out the gap. No idea if this is the best one to buy, but it’ll be easy enough to get that to stay in place.
