Usual attitudes I've read on facebook "it won't affect me" / "it's not that bad" / "I'm not high risk so I won't die"

We just need 10x the fine with minimal discretion. That would put a stop to it faster than more rules.

I'm getting fed up of people going to parks and deliberately taking pictures along a long path to make it look more crowded that it actually is. They get picked up printed all over newspapers and next thing we're all locked in our fucking homes for the rest of this shitty nightmare. Stand in the middle of a field and take pictures of the scene, if everyone's still shoulder to shoulder then fair enough. But that wouldn't get them their precious, precious attention would it. Fuckheads.

There are also people sharing photos from e.g. last summer for the outrage clicks/reactions, which is shit, but some people ARE being dicks about the rules which is ultimately going to screw us all over in the long run. It's easy to see why people are getting to the 'angry puritanism' stage.

My ex appears to have turned the corner in the last 48 hours after 14 days of being largely bed bound.
My sister and her partner still have it but it doesn't currently appear to be too bad.

It doesn't matter so much what some people are doing, as long as the vast majority are doing the right thing. Are a few people sunbathing really going to make any difference to anything when people are still using buses and going to work, shopping etc etc. Of course you don't want to send out the message that it's fine but it's starting to feel like "stronger measures" is being used as a threat. But the people not giving a toss still won't give a toss. Honestly not sure what they're trying to actually achieve.

I think it's clear that the government haven't a fucking clue what they're doing and are flip flopping back and forth, but I'm not sure that changes the fact that some people are just deliberately looking for every loophole they can.

I guess they are trying to avoid a full lock down, like Spain.

I am referring to the likes of people going out for family picnics and calling it their "recommended exercise" because they had to walk from the car to the picnic spot and back again. The likes of people locally who have been seen visiting family members but it's OK because they all sat 2m apart from each other in their garden (never mind the amount of times they touch the gates, chairs, mugs etc while there).

And then of course you've got the scenes from Richmond Park over the weekend. That's not loophole busting so much as just blatant disregard for people's lives.

Yes, which is why the advice is changing. To minimise the contact, etc.

This clapping for the NHS is annoying me, too.

Yes, totally. It's fabulous and moving, and I love the accounts from people who were sceptical and found themselves very moved. But because it was scheduled, and way after other countries had their own, it was never a spontaneous outpouring, and quickly changed to more like a "why aren't you wearing a poppy? Everyone should wear a poppy!" kind of thing. And here, in the heart of Conservative Hertfordshire, it feels awfully off-note.

They've literally given directly contradictory advice, which is clearly going to confuse people.

They've also lied about how many tests/masks they've got coming.

I wonder how many deaths will have been caused by their initial "take it on the chin" strategy.

None, the real danger is from people lying down on the grass.

Or they have given advice then corrected it. depends on how you look at it.

It is not confusing, just follow the latest advice.

I don't think that's the case, but if it were, why is the old incorrect for some reason tweet still posted, for people to easily see?

The first is still correct, it says you can exercise in the park. Which is fine, as you are allowed to.

The second i read as don't go to the park to sunbath etc....

So you don’t at all see how they could be construed as contradictory and cause confusion?

I think the idea that people are not following the gov's advice because it's contradictory and confusing is ridiculous - because as markg said (and you said was "Correct" Mr Chonks) most people are following the advice. If it were that confusing, surely more people would be ignoring the advice?

That doesn't make the gov any less bloody incompetent mind you.

Supposedly the mortality rate for COVID-19 patients that end up in ICU is basically 50%.

Which, and I know this makes me a bit of a twat, just makes me think of The Naked Gun. “Doctors say he’s got a 50/50 chance of living, though there’s only a 10% chance of that.”

I am both wildly startled - because who would really expect it? - and not at all surprised - because he doesn't seem like he is in robust shape, health wise, and the silence was telling its own story. Fingers crossed for everyone suffering.

I'm sure IDS is just caught on the hop, and not quite able to sound reassuring, but this is not:

Quote:
It doesn’t mean necessarily that he isn’t going to pull through this because they may have put him on intensive care because they can treat him and he may have a secondary infection, a serious chest infection and that will stabilise him, they can get after it, and get him through this and out the other side quicker in a more stable way.

DWP about to declare him fit to work then.

He’s being treated by a Dr. Hugh Briss and nurse Ira Knee.

I am both wildly startled - because who would really expect it? - and not at all surprised - because he doesn't seem like he is in robust shape, health wise, and the silence was telling its own story. Fingers crossed for everyone suffering.

He was looking really rough last Thursday.

I expect he’s in a hospital with a team of doctors and nurses looking after him round the clock, even before ICU. Not saying it’s not serious but he’s probably getting better care than if one of us plebs had to go in.
