We took on an elderly one many years ago. She was very cute and chilled out. Yes, a good breed.

Just heard the choral version of Barber's Adagio ( part of this concert). Been years since I last remember listening to it, and it's just as peaceful and evocative as ever.

Yep, I don’t like football but that’s awesome. I’d be tempted to get one for the gym.

All the best drummers do!

I've never played without them and it amazes me that some people do.

Not that I go to many gigs these days but when I do I always take earplugs. I had a very unpleasant experience after going to see Brand X at Jilly's in Manchester about 30 years ago. My left ear was buzzing for about 3 days after the gig. I can still hear the artistes quite well enough while wearing them.

Post subject:  Re: Nice things

It is. TBH this one wasn't about the money. None of them were, but in this one I caved at one point and allowed the solicitor (no win no fee) to attempt to settle for a 1/4 of that. I must admit, I am totally worn out by all of it, and that wasn't a good day (mum had another of her falls).

I could have also left this one, because this one was about her not protecting the deposit. However, I guess the "nan" in me decided that this one wasn't about money or anything but principle. Hence why when they tried to settle for 1/4 I didn't care. My nan was a real scrapper. We used to call her "5ft of fury" and I never saw any one put anything over her in all of the time she was in my life.

I'm glad I decided to fight now. TBH? I kinda knew she would never settle because I already knew what she was like. She did it to the guy upstairs. Sued him, won, stopped him from renting his flat and then tried again and didn't bother showing up for court so she lost.

They sent her the "court" date ages ago. Because of Covid it was due to be a phone thing or something. She didn't show. So they had to give her 6 weeks to appeal the loss (in case she had Covid) but again, not a word. So today they issued that, and with my signature they will forcibly remove the funds from her account soon. I will probably donate a nice chunk to the trust. They have been absolutely incredible.

I don't like fighting over anything. I would much rather avoid it. I really don't like it. However, the torment and illness she put me through (mental and physical, the mould in the kitchen played havoc with my chest) I knew I had to fight her. And it's been really sucky because in the process I have had to spend hours and hours reading about and learning about all sorts of legal poo I would rather have avoided. But like I say, I think my nan did this one.

The good part is that it is now over. Her flat still has a prohibition order on it, and she still can't do anything with it so it sits empty. Maybe in future she will think a bit more about screwing people over. I doubt it, but at least I was the one to stand up to her. Still can't believe she tried a retaliatory eviction whilst the phone calls were being listened to. Like I say, again something I had to learn all about.

Post subject:  Re: Nice things

Today, when I was walking home from school (omg) drop-off, I heard a bird call that I’ve often heard when I have been sitting quietly, and never been able to identify. A squawk of some kind, but not as harsh and throaty as one of the corvids.

I heard it again and looked up as the bird took flight from one tree to my left and it was a rose-ringed parakeet. I know they’ve moved up north and made it to Birmingham years ago, but I’ve never seen any of them around here. I’ve never seen them outside London, actually.

So, this is really special to me as I love birds, but these are so special. Firstly because yes, they are super pretty and exciting, but also, when I was at school I’d often stop off at King Eddie’s park, in Wembley, on the way home and read a book on warm days. One day there was a cacophony of noise and movement between the trees and it was a HUGE flock of rose ringed parakeets. I assumed they’d escaped from a breeder or pet shop. I went home, told my grandad to get his shoes on, and we went back to the lark on the bus.

My grandad looked like a child with all of the wonder in his eyes at that moment. He was so happy, He might have cried. My grandad LOVED birds (he used to be a budgerigar breeder when he was younger, and just plain loved garden birds), and this was like magic to him.

So, I was having a tough morning, and that one little bird just meant everything.
