My Samsung TV has home and menu buttons, although I barely press them once stuff is running. 99% of the time I use a PS4 controller though, the TV remote is an "oh wait, I can use this" afterthought.

It isn’t a sequel but a tech demo of sorts to doss about with. But it does come preloaded on the PS5 appparently.

Oh, that's disappointing.

That wasn’t game? It was the only thing i really liked about the presentation... (and horizon dawn looked nice and introduced by its dutch studio which gave me some pride)

Yeah, baffled why they dropped them for PS4.

Because your TV remote works via HDMI-CEC.

What could the PSVR have to do with anything? Anyway, no, HDMI-CEC worked fine for me on my OG PS4 with no PSVR. In fact it worked on the PS3 even.

It was confirmed in that Wired interview a while back:

Quote:
One of the words Cerny uses to describe the audio may be a familiar to those who follow virtual reality: presence, that feeling of existing inside a simulated environment. When he mentions it, I ask him about PlayStation VR, the peripheral system that has sold more than 4 million units since its 2016 release. Specifically, I ask if there will be a next-gen PSVR to go alongside this next console. “I won't go into the details of our VR strategy today,” he says, “beyond saying that VR is very important to us and that the current PSVR headset is compatible with the new console.”

Because with PSVR the base unit passes HDMI via the new PSVR base box. Anyway it never worked for me then magically did when I plugged in PSVR.

Welp, looks like I've joined the 'day one purchase' gang as my PS4 has just called it a day in a really fucking annoying way.

Turned it on this morning and the pad wouldn't connect. Plugged it in with a USB cable and still no joy. Fucked around with some settings (thank God for HDMI-CEC and my TV remote), restarted the console a couple of times and also reset the pad itself; and it finally connected with the cable...then just stopped working a couple of minutes later.

After that it wouldn't connect to the pad again and even the TV remote would only work sporadically. I gave up and did a factory reset and the pad still wouldn't work. Plus now I've lost HDMI-CEC.

Anyone got any bright ideas what to do next? Otherwise it's basically just a massive fucking paperweight. It was sort of fucked before in that the WiFi was totally knacked but aside from that it worked perfectly fine and would've seen me happily through to the end of the year. Fuck sticks. I never even got a chance to try out the Iron Man VR game.

Price of £360/£450 and release date of November 19th confirmed. Pre-orders already open (on Amazon at least as I just grabbed one). £360 is an unexpectedly low price for the digital version, but given that the cost of games seems to be £70 they'll make that back pretty quickly given their cut on the digital store.

I'm in a muddle now. The Xbox offer is very tempting what with the instant catalogue of games that we'd have to play. But I already have a PC so if I get an Xbox then I can't help feeling that in time there will be stuff on the PS5 that I'll really want to play. Even though Idon't care much for anything they've announced so far. Plus PS5 will support PSVR and there might be some good stuff come from that.

I'm definitely going to be sitting out the new consoles for a while, unless my PS4 goes tits up. Got tonnes still to play on it, and the Switch too.

And I even fired up Half Life 2 for a first playthrough on the 360 the other day*. I'm seemingly playing anything to stop myself from cracking open Zelda BOTW.

But I'm drawn to the new Xbox, simply because I dearly loved my OG Xbox and 360 in ways I never have with the PS4. Not that I'd be able to put my finger on why. Mebbe it's the pad.

*Don't think I'll be proceeding, felt juddery and made me a bit queasy.

Maybe swaying a bit towards PS5 but although I said I have a PC and so I'm covered for a lot of those games that's really just mine but any new console would be for my daughter and me. We like playing games together and the Game Pass catalog is pretty tempting there.

And with PS+ you get these PS4 games to play on your brand new spanking PS5 (unknown whether they will have performance updates or what but I’m guessing with BF1 in there that some form of ray tracing might be added but with Bloodborne infamously breaking at a higher frame rates then maybe not. Who knows right now):-

God of War
Bloodborne
Monster Hunter World
Final Fantasy XV
Mortal Kombat X
Fallout 4
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
Ratchet & Clank
Days Gone
Until Dawn
Detroit: Become Human
Battlefield 1
Infamous: Second Son
Batman: Arkham Knight
The Last Guardian
The Last of Us: Remastered
Persona 5
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Replace PS4 with Xbox One and that's pretty much the same for me. I'm running low on room for consoles and I think my next one will be a retro one rather than a modern one - perhaps a colecovision next.

Aye, I assumed I'd do the same given I did that last time (though I went the opposite way; started with the X360 and later picked up a PS3). There wasn't a single Xbone exclusive I cared about this entire gen though which is almost impressively crap.

That would involve playing a game on the PS4. I can’t remember how to do it.

Also I’m not sure if I actually bought it again, thinking about it. I thought about buying it…

Only available on the console itself now for some stupid fucking reason:

https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/ ... and-mobile

I don't use that function myself, but when it comes to interacting with console or PC store fronts I generally prefer to do it all from the web versions so I'm against this kind of functional disparity. Sony's web presence is a confusing fragmented fucking mess as it is without hiving certain stuff off in certain places. Example: when I went to sign in there I was surprised LastPass didn't step in. Turns out there's now yet another domain to be dealt with (my.account.sony.com) in addition to the two I've already logged in from in the past (id.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com and store.playstation.com).

It is indeed, even when I'm actually logged into the PSN store it takes a relatively long time when I first hit the site for it to 'realise' who I am and update the user icon etc. I imagine it's down to them trying to glue all their various sites together, hence why you can only do so much account maintenance on the PSN site itself before you need to be switched over to some other Sony domain.

On the more game-focussed tip, I'll probably pick up the new Spider-man game to play on day one, but mostly I'm just gagging to play Astro's Playroom which sounds brilliant:

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2020 ... art-of-ps5

After that it'll be back to working my way through PS4 games as I don't think there's much else coming out I'm fussed about any time soon. I haven't kept track of Cyberpunk expect to know that the full fat PS5 version won't be available at the time of the PS4 version's release so that can go on the backlog (assuming it's actually any good of course).
