I think we should all start talking excitedly about Animal Crossing on Switch, and maybe E3 will give us a release date.

What weird villagers will sit on my bed in my absence and post me a spider and a barber’s chair for my birthday, with no thought for the poor postie pelican?

I just want to say a big thank you to all of the awesomest people that have started Animal Crossing threads before me, when they were on previous platforms. They are the best of people with the best of subjects.

I bought an Animal Crossing stickerbook whilst I wait.

This has reminded me that my sister brought round her copy of Animal Crossing for the Gamecube but my scart cable is knackered and I keep forgetting to buy another one :(

Since even Nintendo are succumbing to the scourge of microtransactions and P2W mechanics, I'll be waiting to see how the game is designed before committing to a purchase.

You end up with a payday loan from Tom Nook.

Don't give them ideas. This is an industry that already sells extra save slots for real money.

I have to admit I’ve never really understood the appeal of Animal Crossing. I had both the GC and DS versions and in retrospect they seem to be the precursor to FarmVille etc. If you don’t log in for a day or two you get guilt-tripped the next time you do.

And Tom Nook is a shyster.

I think Harvest Moon is more an obvious precursor to things like FarmVille, and the first Harvest Moon predates the first (Japan) AC. AC is more open ended than most those other games. Crops don’t die if you don’t water them, you have no life aims (to make a successful farm, marry, etc), other than those which you decide. You just kind of bumble along, and it’s happy. The villagers are funny, and apart from a few weeds and cockroaches if you don’t log in for ages, the ‘guilt’ is pure fun ‘where have you been? I missed to so I came and sat on your bed and watched you sleep every day. Is that weird?’ (When you could see ‘inactive’ players snoozing if you had more than one character. Plus they always remember your birthday. And they have some truly bonkers ideas (like the cat who keeps losing her face so you have to draw her a new one and send her on to the next town...)

Are they going to give us a release date (or at least quarter) at E3? I guess there’s only two Qs left.

Burning it all to the ground!

March 2020 is not a 2019 release.

You can pole vault over the river though, so that’s cool.

I should have foreseen this. We bought the Switch the day after AC was announced. Now it mocks me with its lack of pop tarts.

I’m thinking of booking a weekend away for Russell and Darwin as a mother’s day gift to me.

I watched the treehouse live play. There’s proper local (up to 4 player) and online (up to 8 player) gameplay where you can work together on tasks. Lots of gathering materials to craft items. Looks good. Nice little touches like leaves that rustle in the wind. You can also now set it to Southern Hemisphere patterns of season.

Conversations with my animal chums are some of the best I’ve had. Like the time Alphonso said that when he missed me he broke into my house and sat in my bed, watching me sleep. Sometimes they’re jerks. Forgive, forget, or wait until March when he *will* be able to surround him with holes and walk off, or hit him with a shovel.

Pre-order round up!

Game have it up for 50 quid but for a penny. With a "free" shitty bag!

ShopTo has it for £42.85 with a free keyring of evil Tom Nook, who shall be first against the wall come the revolution.

Simply Games has it for a quid cheaper at £41.85 with an Isabelle keyring. Much more nicerer.

The Game Collection has it for just under £40 with no extras. now includes an Isabelle pin badge for £42.95

365 Games Another £43 ish but with a KK Slider pin badge.

Smyths for £45 with a notepad. £5 cheaper if bought instore.

Scumazon £45 of pure tax avoiding bastardness.
