Google Home recently got the ability, if you have smart bulbs in your bedroom, to gradually fade them up to maximum brightness over 30 minutes before the alarm goes off. This is a very good feature. I rarely need the alarm now, instead I get a much more gentle wake up from the light.

Yeah, I have Alexa turn on the lights, if I'm still asleep 5 minutes later, it starts Spotify. If that doesn't wake me, I get a loud blaring alarm 10 minutes later.

Politics In this era has transcended anyone caring about truth or accuracy. Look at Trump, who can tell ten lies a minute. Ten plain, clear, obvious to everyone lies. 60% of people shrug it off as unimportant that he’s lying, the ones that realise it and dislike it just can’t keep up. By the time one once-shocking thing has been said, twenty more have followed. The thing is you are bombarded by so many outrageous lies and actions that you can’t focus. And our government have just gone ‘Yes! That’s the best way to be evil and unaccountable’ so we are ushering in his British protege and then we’ll have Boris and Trump, two of the most evil leaders showing a buffoons face to get away with it. It literally will not matter one bit what they do. Remember all the WTF people used to feel o we some of Putin’s ridiculous claims about his virility, etc? We have exactly that with Trump, and his intelligence, which is more ridiculous.

Gosh, I get so worked up thinking about this I can’t even keep track of what I was going to say.

Yes, so it doesn’t matter that this is the government that have pushed the situation to this. They can say ‘look what the BBC are doing’ and then everyone just plays merrily along.

The idea of all those that might miss out on their free TV licences turning over for two days to a paid-for competitor, though. Boof. Mind blown.

I only followed my uncle because he wanted to show me pictures of a donkey he’d adopted. Then there’s some of Russell’s family posting exactly the same (Brexit! TV LICENCE... VETERANS!) so, ugh. Blocked my uncle again (I hadn’t spoken to him in ten years before then, so that doesn’t matter).

I’m sure your right, but conversations are not the same thing as data. Who’s to say that they couldn’t record conversations after detecting key words, and then process that to add it to their big data library, for whatever purposes suits them? We are required to take on trust that the data won’t be used improperly, whatever THAT is, but it’s been shown repeatedly that data does end up in places the originator would prefer it not to be.

So, I may sound like one of the tin foil hat brigade, but I prefer to err on the side of caution until I’m satisfied that it’s safe to drop my guard. And even so, I’m sure that a lot of data originating from me has made its way into places I know nothing about.
