I saw earlier that the police said it was accidental, caused by some renovation work being carried out. My heart goes out to the person(s) who was/were working the job where it started. I guess all it takes is a spark, but I can’t imagine being the person who was wielding whatever caused the rogue spark, or surge of electricity, or was using some piece of equipment. I genuinely don’t know how I’d get through coming to terms with it. |

Deeply sad to see the destruction of Notre-Dame. I hope they can save the masonry structure. I felt jolly upset by the destruction of the beautiful Mackintosh Arts Building in Glasgow, a fire I suspected for a while connected to developer's arson. The old architecture of Paris has survived many a war, including occupation and air-raids. I hope they got the art out okay, and no one was hurt. But man, this is sad. |

She wasn't allowed to do this because, as the nice professor explained, the bacteria found in the mouth are so nasty that if allowed to grow to non-trivial populations you'd have to work in a biosafety level 3 lab and the university only had BSL-2 facilities [1]. For context, there are only four levels of BSL; BSL-4 is for stuff like ebola and smallpox. This is also why hospitals treating people for bites get terribly excited and shoot the victim up with all manner of potent antibiotics. [1] Possibly it had more but the undergrads weren't allowed in there. |

My mother arrived at noon and is staying till Sunday afternoon My inlaws arrive on Sunday evening and are staying for a week (childs first week off) Child is overly tired and therefore super hyper so we have already baked cupcakes this morning and done all the weekly shopping and boiled the eggs for decorating and now she and mother are bike riding somewhere while I enjoy the quiet (except the dishwasher is going again) |

I've been off all week, so I've already been on bike rides along the River Plym, and long walks along the River Avon ( not that one, or that one). Today I went swimming in the River Erme with my daughter (yes it was freezing) and then cut open my big toe on my right foot when I slipped on some rocks. This turn of events might curtail future activities this weekend as I was hoping for more outside fun tomorrow and Monday. We will see... |

My employer asked for volunteers to work over the Easter weekend. I declined. I had a lie in until about 8. Mrs. W. decided it was time we bought another barbecue. I didn’t argue because it’s pointless to do so. We were going to buy a Weber, but Mrs. W. saw something similar and with more features, for £50 less. I didn’t argue because it’s pointless to do so, and we bought it, and some charcoal and some stuff to cook on it. Came home. Assembled barbecue with only one tiny mistake, right at the beginning and which I spotted immediately and rectified. Managed the whole thing without swearing once. See ‘What have you bought?’ for view of the finished product. It’ll be a pity to spoil it by usIng it. No other plans for the rest of the weekend, but no doubt that will change. |

Our plans are mainly to relax after the last week. Joans has bought some pork that he is going to BBQ tomorrow. I believe he is also going to make burgers and kebabs. Other than a bit of pottering about doing little jobs, my plan is to sit on my bum, drink wine and eat snacks.
