'Female-presenting nipples' is a brilliant euphemism.

Obviously, nobody on Beex will be too inconvenienced by this change, and the article says there'll be an exemption for 'art' so we can carry on appreciating the human form.

I was here a few years ago and less impressed. I think prosperity has really hit. Plus, yes, the prices - sometimes i think they're in Euros, and it still seems reasonable (paid 5.75 for croissants, fruit and yoghurt the other morning. Seems okay, right? But that's zloty, which is 5 to the pound).

No salt mines, or anything, yet. I've a couple of days here yet.

People that have played "A Way Out" (so Grim, Cras and Sat at least): how hard is it? Mrs B has expressed interest in getting into gaming of some kind and the idea of something like that we could play together on the couch appeals to me. However, she's never played any modern games so anything that requires quick reactions on (relatively) complex controls might frustrate her. I've seen bits of the game played and nothing in it looked too challenging, but I don't think I've seen an example of combat which is where the wheel are most likely to come off.

Post subject:  Re: Bits and Bobs 50

It's pretty easy. Even the bits that require timing and co-ordination and the shooty bits are generous and easy to retry.

Post subject:  Re: Bits and Bobs 50

I’d say it depends on her ability to use modern twin stick controllers to coordinate movement and camera control because the controls are quite “traditional” shall we say? It’s second nature to us but I’ve seen non-gamers struggle. The shooting sections require use of the right stick to blast and there’s some, urgh, stealth sections that might require manipulating the camera a bit. Basically if she can get by with the things that you normally associate with gaming then she’ll be fine, thankfully these sections aren’t too taxing and I’m sure one character can normally take over the lion’s share for the most part. Outside of the shooting, stealth and driving I’d say anyone could do the other sections without much difficulty.

That's definitely a concern because she's never done that, but it would be a learning curve for most games I could pick so I'm not too bothered about that; and it's third person rather than first person which I personally found much easier when I was getting into controller controls back in the X360 era. From you and Cras's other comments it sounds like it's doable so I might suggest it over Christmas at some point. Ta guys.

Portal (1) is a good one for learning twin stick controls, as there is no time pressure or ways to die (to start with).

Xbox 360, PS3 and Xbox One (&X) via backwards compatibility.

Post subject:  Re: Bits and Bobs 50

I have my PC hooked up to the TV in the living room so the platform itself doesn't matter. I know there are games that would teach her general controls more effectively, but if I sit her down in front of a single player game and I'm just like, "Off you go then!" she's not going to get invested. If we're playing something together it's much more likely to hook her.

Fake edit: ah, there's a demo of A Way Out on the PS4! Sorted!

Yeah, I've put that on a list of potential stuff. Though I'm slightly concerned that the very nature of Portal plus the FPS controls will just blow her mind instantly. Also, I've spent so long playing it (and did all the co-op levels myself at one point) that she'd either just be dumbly carrying out my instructions to solve the puzzles or I'd need to bite my tongue for hours and let her work out the solutions. Neither of those scenarios is ideal.

The co-op is fairly tricky to start with, though, and the SP starts with the "run out of the collapsing test facility" bit.

I found the single player to be a walkover. Only a couple of places weren't trivial.

Coop at least required some investigation, although nothing too hard.

Played through itagain recently and, having forgotten the coop solutions, was still fun.
