I for one do not want to see a display of how easily pleased you are.

My wife invited me to Plurk, which seems just like Twitter only bloated, slow and confusing.

I quite like the timeline thing, though.

Does anyone use it?

Plurk? Did that follow Twitter, or was it around before then? I can't see the point of posting stuff twice over something that's essentially the same.

Dunno, but there's an option to automatically send your "Plurks" to Twitter.

Presumably after mentioning In The Loop in an earlier tweet, @Malcolm_Tucker is now following me. Sample message:

Quote:
Malcolm Tucker is apoplectic with rage

Also, after being rude about UKTV, they're now following me. It's getting so you can't bitch about anyone these days. (nb. This does not apply to Mr P. Carr.)

In his defence, he is fictional. And there are better clips from The Thick Of It that I could have used, but they're thin on the ground on YouTube.

Yes indeed.

Malcolm Tucker: [preparing Ben for going on TV again] Get him properly fucking screen-tested! I'm sorry, mate, but you need a lot of powder. I've never seen anyone looking so fucking ugly with just one head!
Ben Swain: No, I've lost my... erm... safety...
Malcolm Tucker: Who was it to teach you media training? Myra Hindley? It's terrible! All these hands all over the place! You were like a sweaty octopus trying to unhook a bra! It was like watching John Leslie at work!
Ben Swain: Yes, I know all that. It just, kinda, fell away. It's like one of those dreams when you're wandering around Covent Garden with just a vest and everyone's staring at you.
Jamie: It was much worse than that. I mean, how many people see you at Covent Garden? A few thousand? Your meltdown was witnessed by 1.2 million people! That's more people than saw Al Jolson in his fucking career! And that's Al fucking Jolson!
Malcolm Tucker: He loves Al Jolson.
Jamie: The Guvnor!
Oliver Reeder: Maaameee!
Jamie: You take the piss out of Al Jolson again and I will remove your iPod from its tiny nano-sheath and push it up your cock! Then I'll put some speakers up your arse and put it on shuffle with my fucking fist. And every time I hear something that I don't like, which will be every time that something comes on, I will skip to the next track by crushing your balls!

RealRobertWebb had an awesome tirade at a Guardian columnist last night.

Also, Rev, your good lady's "plurk" business is driving up the wall with its linking to stuff.

Favrd: is it a closed loop?

When something appears on Favrd, people add that person because they think they're funny. That person therefore has more followers likely to add his tweets as favourites, therefore ensuring they continue to appear on Favrd.

It'd be interesting to see how often someone appears on Favrd who hasn't, for example, already appeared on the list in the last month.

I keep thinking she's posted an amusing link, then realising it's only a link to Plurk.

Seems to have tailed off a bit now, though.

A bit, but less than you think. Admittedly even once you register on the site, it doesn't seem to start counting things you star until you have yourself been starred (it's either slow, or it's a deliberate move to prevent the marketing tools from infiltrating it; it acts as a trust network). It would be very closed except most of the people on it are receptive to adding people who are funny, so it's not as hard to get into as it looks. I've been on the front page a dozen times, although I'm unlikely to ever trouble the leaderboard with the likes of @sween and @luckyshirt running around; my "high score" is a meagre 8 stars. Still I've only been playing about with being funny on Twitter for a couple of months, so I'm pleased to find any audience.

Quote:

It took me a while, but now I'm pretty sure I am picking up followers from appearing on it. I also look at a new follower's Favrd page when I decide whether to follow them back -- it's a good at-a-glance way to tell if they are funny or not.

It's really not very dissimilar from Beex's POTW writ large.

Vodaphone customers can now get SMS notification of Tweets if they felt like it:

It's worth pointing out you can turn this on or off individually for each account you follow. I think I'll turn it on for @BeexGames when/if Twitter add O2 support, as that's the only Twitter account I follow where time is of the essence.

What does "RT" mean?

Someone did an @ tweet at me, with my own message, but preceeded with RT. Said person appears to have done that a few times. Are they agreeing with me or insulting me?

Yours,

It does make me chuckle that if you put "Paul Carr" into tweetcloud, one of the major words is "bellend"

To be fair, if you put in Jonarob, you end up with an even bigger bellend.

And Dimrill only has a tiny bellend. (You heard it here first, ladies)

Although...

Arse, she can fuck off. In fact with a combined 359723 twitter followers between the two of them, we should all chip in five pence each and pay the fine direct to whichever party agrees to aggressively hound Blears out of Parliament. Ross and Brand DID NOT BROADCAST THE THING, a BBC producer did, and they are on inflated salaries to convince them not to commit such fuck-ups. Anything Ross and Brand did was done as a recording, not a broadcast. Ofcom don't police recordings.

And if Twitter can turn its power upon the less pleasant Blair babers, all the better >:(

I think that 3 out of the last 4 times I have accessed Twitter, it has been down for maintenance or not working in some other fashion.

Have I been unlucky, or is it breaking under the strain of being popular?
