My wife invited me to Plurk, which seems just like Twitter only bloated, slow and confusing.

I quite like the timeline thing, though.

Plurk? Did that follow Twitter, or was it around before then? I can't see the point of posting stuff twice over something that's essentially the same.

Favrd: is it a closed loop?

When something appears on Favrd, people add that person because they think they're funny. That person therefore has more followers likely to add his tweets as favourites, therefore ensuring they continue to appear on Favrd.

It'd be interesting to see how often someone appears on Favrd who hasn't, for example, already appeared on the list in the last month.

I keep thinking she's posted an amusing link, then realising it's only a link to Plurk.

A bit, but less than you think. Admittedly even once you register on the site, it doesn't seem to start counting things you star until you have yourself been starred (it's either slow, or it's a deliberate move to prevent the marketing tools from infiltrating it; it acts as a trust network). It would be very closed except most of the people on it are receptive to adding people who are funny, so it's not as hard to get into as it looks. I've been on the front page a dozen times, although I'm unlikely to ever trouble the leaderboard with the likes of @sween and @luckyshirt running around; my "high score" is a meagre 8 stars. Still I've only been playing about with being funny on Twitter for a couple of months, so I'm pleased to find any audience.

It took me a while, but now I'm pretty sure I am picking up followers from appearing on it. I also look at a new follower's Favrd page when I decide whether to follow them back -- it's a good at-a-glance way to tell if they are funny or not.

It's really not very dissimilar from Beex's POTW writ large.

It's worth pointing out you can turn this on or off individually for each account you follow. I think I'll turn it on for @BeexGames when/if Twitter add O2 support, as that's the only Twitter account I follow where time is of the essence.
