So, I'm off work today (again, but there is no electricity in the building, so it's OK) and am going to...

Wait for it...

Look for jobs and play some MarioKart.

Eventful Wednesday so far. I stopped on one of the bypasses at the side of the road to help a fellow biker, but didn't manage to do anything, because his engine had blown. Fuck.

And now it's raining.

And I've just ordered a new lens for my camera. Hoorah.

I'm going to do what passes for work around here all day, and then go to Camden and drink cocktails whilst runing through my Best Man speech.

Can we merge them all into one big MaliA thread?
Then perhaps put that into a subforum?
That only MaliA can see?

I vote for this. I'm surprised no one caught on to my 'Wordpress' hint on Monday.

Ooh shiny. I have the Sigma 10-20, though I haven't used it in a while.

I'm all for democracy and people saying what they want, as they want, without editing.

However - and I mean this with all kindness, as I'm certainly one to create the occasional 'wacky' thread, and after all, this is a rather communal* and familial forum - BITS AND FUCKING BOBS FOR FUCKING CHRIST'S SAKE PLEASE. But that's just my opinion.

edit: referring not to talk of cameras, I might add.

* incestuous

Great lenses, them, but I've heard too many stories of soft copies, and I'm a daft twat who'll spend considerably more to reduce potential hassle.

Also your Canon one will work fine if you move to a larger sensor (I am guessing you have APS-C like me).

Nah it won't, it's an EF-S designed for the 1.6 crop, so it'll die with this body if I ever upgrade. Putting it on a full-frame will actually have the mirror hit the rear element, heh.

Oh well. I won't be upgrading any time soon.

edit: how are you finding your new lens? It makes me drool, that one.

It works perfectly with my Kenko 1.4TC, and I think it seems to pick up colours better than the Sigma zoom did, but I could be convincing myself. It's not too big and heavy, and I'm mostly hoping that the fact that it's weather sealed and doesn't pull in and out will save it from dust. I was reading the autograss forum and one of the photographers I think broke his 150-500 lens, possibly due to dust in the gubbins.

Yes, yours is EFS. Still, it's a proven great lens. I wonder what you thought about the Tokina 12-24. That was a really close second to me, but I wanted to go extreme with 10mm.

It must be very painful to break an expensive lens. You should be okay with yours though, for the reasons you mentioned. Do you have it insured?

I didn't even look at the 12-24. I wanted 10mm at its widest, if not wider. I already have a 17-55mm and couldn't justify another lens unless it was at least 10mm wider in full-frame terms. The 10mm is 11.2mm wider, so is nice and dandy.

Now I just need to hold off splashing out on a telephoto, because I really can't afford one.

I do like my Sigma (£110) though I have been reading some positive things about that new Canon 55-250 IS.
