They're silly.

There are reasons why they're often used commercially, and Dyson aren't* (one lasts forever, the other dies quickly)

We have this one

https://www.dyson.co.uk/cordfree-vacuums/handhelds.html

Pretty good to be fair, I need to give it a good clean out once every 6 months, rest of the time normal empty works fine

Sharks are better though :)

I got the "animal" version of this just before christmas (for £199, annoyingly) and it's ace! Battery could be a bit better though.

I refuse to pay over £100 for a hoover. It’s a sodding hoover.

Fair enough, but nobody's mentioned any Hoovers.

If it's reliable, as compared to the £50 I used to have, great.

Dysons, however, aren't.

That makes it sound rubbish but we use it all the time, you just sometimes need to pick up bigger bits. I'll tell you what are absolute bollocks, though. Steam cleaners. We got a karcher one and I have yet to find one single thing for which it is more effective or easier to use than either a mop or a cloth.

Which steam cleaner do you have?

Have a look at Polti as well. Karcher's high end gear is good but it's consumer stuff is deeply mediocre.

I can't remember which exact one we have, and I can't be bothered going into the back of the cupboard under the stairs (exactly where I knew it was going to end up before we bought it) to find out. They're hardly complex machines though, just a pressure vessel with a kettle inside. Totally pointless for pretty much everything unless you're an obsessive germophobe, or I guess if you're running some sort of back street surgery it could come in handy. You have to take it out unwrap all the wires, fill it up, wait for the fucking thing to boil and then, once you've finished cleaning whatever it was it is probably now soaking wet so you have to take out a cloth and wipe it anyway.

I didn't say they were any good ;)
I had a Polti, but it had an iron attachment so it got used mainly as that. As a cleaner, they're at best, a bit meh, in my experience.
