Hello,

On behalf of my little bro, Can I get a recommendation or two on a camera bag? He has a Nikon D3300: only got the stock lens at the moment and a tripod but will likely want room for spare battery and possibly another lens in the future.

I have a Lowepro backpack that's always served me well for a similar amount of gear. But it just depends what style of bag he wants.

There's a lot of different styles of camera bag, both in terms of how you wear them and how they look. Can you narrow it down?

I have a ThinkTank Retrospective, which I like a lot. It's not styled like a camera bag, so it's more innocuous, and I like the "thick messenger bag" shape. It comes in a wide range of sizes.

Oh, I’m not sure of the style he wants so I’ve dropped him a line x

It’s a backpack style that he’s afterhe says. Is there a particular model, or are they all much of a muchness, capacity wise?

Mine is a few years old by now but it's a 200 size so it has room for the camera with a lens fitted and a few other lenses then a compartment at the top for other stuff and then some straps at the bottom for the tripod. It's probably on the big side for what he wants but I was after something with extra room for a day's walking.

That’s brill, thank you. He travels a lot so I’ll just copy/paste that to him so he can perhaps better gauge whether a bit of extra capacity would be helpful whilst he is hiking, etc.

No worries, it's been years since I bought mine and back then Lowepro were fairly well regarded and not stupidly expensive. But you might very well be able to get something every bit as good but a third of the price from China by now, though.

He said that he was looking at Lowepro to begin with but that most of the ones he looked at were out of stock, but we’ve just been looking at models and he’s narrowed it down to two that are in stock online.

Thanks for the recommendations!

My brother is setting off on his travels in half an hour and just sent me a message to ask me to pass on his thanks for the bag recommendation. He got this one in the end and said it’s absolutely perfect for his needs and is going to make a massive difference to this trip and future ones.

Just in case the bottom falls out of it and his camera smashes on the ground then I think it was Zardoz who originally put me on to that brand.
