It's only been 11 years since I first heard a booming voice coming from my headset in Team Fortress 2 from a fellow with an odd Gamertag.

Happy birthday!

The first time I played with Beexers (technically, WOSsers) was a racing game of some kind and I put on a posh voice throughout, and everyone bought it. I remember making lots of noise with some sweet wrappers, and then saying "I'm terribly sorry, I was just opening some fudge."

I think the only person there that's still around was Mr Dave. We played Halo afterwards.

I associate online gaming with you as: Nekkid / Pizza / Drunken (Borderlands). Also HEROIC Dark Souls action.

I remember first time I played with you was gears of war, shortly before savcon.i think that may have been the first online gaming on wos at all. And it was awesome.

Got home after a fun post-work drink, turn on the radio, and the first thing I hear is the National Anthem. Talk about unnecessary shocks.

Basically, yes. It's like when there's a strike and there's no 'Today' programme in the morning. A momentary panic whilst the regular listener processes what it might mean. Turns out it was just the start of tonight's concert on the Third.

Still, I remember feeling very uneasy on the evening of the London attacks on 7th July 2005 when the Radio 4 News fell off the air.

Sorry, I had worded that badly and it looks like I thought you’d overreacted, which I didn’t think.

I meant was there any reason they were playing it? And then the follow question. I know you’ve answered both, I just didn’t want you think I was being mean when I was just writing poorly (even moteso that usual).

Nah, didn't think that at all.

The tune's still pretty rubbish, even when orchestrated.

It sounds a lot better if it's played a little faster.

Reminds me of a discussion with a very talented guitarist I know, where we agreed that Folk music sucks... But he pointed out that if you play Folk twice as fast as normal it becomes punk. He then busted out a medley of 'finger-in-ear fol-de-rol shite' (as he memorably called Folk) but twice as fast and he's was right.

What according to your friend is "Folk music"? Is one of the broadest tags, and is as meaningless as "world music". I suppose he's mentioning the 60's singer/songwriting music like Dylan, Neil Young or Joan Baez? Because i don't see how can something like this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDbYOssoOYI) sped up can be punk. But i would be curious to see the result :D

The sped up version actually sounds more "normal" than the 1x one which sounds slowed down. It's the Doom Metal of folk.

We were talking about Trad Folk, so proper old school stuff. Where everyone dies by the end.

For context we were at a Live Roleplaying Event. The above stuff gets a fair amount of play, either 'straight' or 'filked' and is often played/sung even slower and more boring than normal, such being mistaken as being more 'heartfelt'.

This is why we got onto playing it twice as fast, (and 'playing' as in literally playing on a guitar or other instrument).

He even made The Wild Rover tolerable. And I hate that song.

Ooooo, I didn’t know of this feature either. I thing I preferred it when I could play LPs at 45rpm and everyone sounded like Pinky and Perky, or 78rpm which was mayhem.

I've had 4 calls in the past 3 days from Indian scammers pretending to be from BT Open reach as my PC is infected.

My record for winding one up so far is 40 minutes. He was persistent.

Seriously though, has anyone else had any? My dad has had a few as well. It seems they're ramping up their scam activity.

One rang our house while I was out. So disappointed. I would have loved to wind him up.

We even get them at work. Bold move when someone answers the phone with "IT Services, Dave speaking" to plow on with your "you have a virus" speech!

Mrs. W said she had a couple recently, but she can’t be arsed to wind them up, she just tells them we don’t have a computer and they usually hang up immediately.
