Ello. I need to buy a fridge/freezer (a combo unit specifically, NOT seperates). Ideally I'd like to get one v. soon, v. cheaply, from somewhere that will offer me a warranty n' that.

Obviously, there's the like of Comet. I'm going to see if Ebuyer has anything like this, 'cos they've done me well in the past. Edit: nah, they don't do those kinds of non-PC appliances. Tsk.

But. Any other ideas? eBay isn't a viable option. I get a bit confused and scared trying to buy appliances that aren't games-related.

Iceland are usually pretty cheap for that sort of thing.

I got mine from Comet. They have various sales on certain models from time to time, best to go into the store to see. Yeah, I wouldn't trust eBay either.

I got a lovely frost-free Daewoo fridge-freezer from Curry's for a very reasonable price... and it's in that fashionable greyish-metally colour too!

Yeah, Frost Free is the way to go. I'm upset that fridges no longer have metal doors. Where the hell am I supposed to put my fridge magnets now?

They still have metal under the plastic. My lone fridge magnet works fine.

Does it have to be brand new? Might be worth nosing around for a local appliance shop that sells nearly new stuff. I bought a washing machine on the cheap that way and I think that came with some kind of warranty, plus delivery was easy to arrange.

Already tried this. Erm. Let's just say that... well, I had to physically restrain my Dad from punching a guy in a shop yesterday, before they eventually gave us a refund and compensation. Long story, not got time now to write it, heh.

If you have some sort of retail park by you you could have a wander and see which has the best deal. You can usually have the fridge by the next day too (or there and then of course if you have your own transport).

Are you closer to your parents now CUS?

Alas, whilst there is a retail park sort-of near me, I have no transport of my own. But still probably my best idea really, isn't it? Hmm.

Erm, no. But that's a deliciously interesting and informative question for me, thanks.

Er, I'm not sure what's so interesting and/or informative about it. I only asked because you said you were with your Dad yesterday so I thought you were perhaps closer to him or them (although in this day and age I probably shouldn't assume that anyones parents are still together :( ). I hope your move has gone well though (assuming you are all relocated now) and I'm glad that you've got back online quickly (again assuming you're at you're new place). :)

Nah, no internet at home. Got to sort that out some time this week. I'm just in the office (whereas I've worked from home for the past two months) - so, y'know, won't be on XBLAH in the evenings or owt, on the off-chance anyone looked for me ;)

Today I have been mostly downloading the weekend's Doctor Who, just as fast as I dared to let uTorrent go here; which one of our Ops noticed, who winked at me and sent a Skype saying 'Cool, I was going to download that tonight, I'll delete the log entry for it'. :D

Back to fridge-freezers. Basically, I had ordered one for delivery on Saturday at 12. At 3, they finally answered the phone and said it would be there by 6. By around midnight, the food in cooler bags was now decidedly defrosting, and had to be thrown away, pissing me off immensely. Monday morning, we phoned angrily, and were told it'd definitely arrive by 2. At 2.30 I called and was told it'd definitely be there by 6. It arrived at 6.45 - except it wasn't the one I'd bought, apparently "When we were putting it on the van there was a pipe that snapped off the back, so we'll fix that for you and bring it on Wednesday - I've brought you this one now, it's smaller and it doesn't auto-defrost like the other one, but will this do?"

Ahem. No. Thus, this thread. >:(

Well I hope you got some compensation out of them for the loss of your food!

I'll tell you tomorrow, when my Dad goes there to complain in its own special way. Unlike myself, a most calm and collected young man, he has a bit of a temper :metul:

Are you the child of Comical Games? Or even, just perhaps, Rev (Linda Barker - Ed)?

Well I wouldn't blame him with you losing out like that, can I borrow him from time to time? It must be nice to have someone stand in your corner like that!

This is roughly how I get away with downloading at work too, although I newsgroup so it doesn't upload. I have everything shared on a huge external drive. If it DID eventually turn nasty, my logs show everyone's downloaded off me :D
