I know this is pretty specialist, but you'll probably come up with something or know something that I haven't thought of. Anyway, here's the brief.

I want to light up my drum kit to make it look cool. It needs to be a relatively light weight solution (drums are heavy enough as it is) and not massive so that it takes up the whole stage. I can attach things to my drum kit but for obvious reasons, I can't drill it or screw into it.

My current drum kit is black and looks just like the picture below. The rope lights aren't really suitable anymore as they broke at the last gig I did and anyway, they look a little untidy.

Any ideas?

What about those sticky LED lighting kits you can get for behind TVs and desks and things?

Yeah, IKEA do a pretty nice range of sticky LED strips and things that you can set the colour of.

I think you can get dedicated battery powered LED stage lights for not loads of money these days.

Kinda related, but has anyone got any of those micro LEDs with the filament fine wires, look a bit like fireflies? I was wondering if the wire was pliable enough to knit with it weave into knitting.

I'm now thinking I need a smoke machine as well... Good call on Ikea. I've seen the light section so I'll take a look next time I'm there.

Battery operated wouldn't be as ideal as a mains plug to be honest. I'll only ever be playing my kit near to a plug socket anyway so I may as well save on the expense of batteries and plug the stuff in.

I've made something with that wire, and I think it would break.

It's cheap enough that you could probably give it a go, though.

That's a good point. I could carry it in a spiral up the piece if it weren't very flexible, though I'd have to work out a way to do it in a way that still gave the knitting some degree of flexibility, otherwise GLOWHAT will be uncomfortable.

I did not mean to put a w. I'm so crap at typing that I can't even spell words I've made up.

It should change colour or led-blinking-rate based on your current drumming tempo. Hitting hi-hat should turn everything a bright electric blue.

A gallon of petrol and a match should do it.

@Mimi and vision, electro luminescent cable is the businessssss, it's easy thicker and stronger than fibre optic and Mrs wookie made a wearable thing with it in art college. Runs on batteries for all eternity.

Basically if you want to light up your kit and make it look decent, you need something reasonably substantial.

Needs more JPEG obv

That is because it does not yet have enough JPEG.

Whenever you say needs more JPEG it just processes the image again. As it's a lossy format the artifacting will get greater and greater.

I presume it's just Grim given the plea to stop in the most recent post.

Indeed. And because I don't have the files at work it's stopped anyway.

It wouldn't be hard to whip up a bit, but I don't think it's worth it :)

Nah, it was an unexpected and funny reponse to my post but probably not something worth much of your time for the future. :)
