Once we hit about March, the front garden and the back half of the back garden get a LOT of sun. My problem is more the rabbits that I have free ranging in the back garden in all weathers ;) Little buggers destroyed all my strawberry plants. To get round that, I'm thinking I might line the wall in the front garden with grow bags and grow up the dividing fence.

Sounds like a plan, Jem; from what little I know (I am no gardening expert) ensure fence is south-facing and gets all the sun (obv) and good, Levington growbags with Suttons grafted plants, securely staked, well watered and regularly side-shooted, should go like the clappers? :)

(I'd be surprised if rabbits went for tomato plants but I don't actually know tbh)

Mmm, the smell from tomato plant leaves. Bring on the summer.

We should have a gardening / home growing thread.

Do mine in a greenhouse, the grafted plants are usually good had years where I was supplying 2 house each side of me with cucumbers for a month and still had too many

Also found you can get unlucky with either a weak plant or bad graft, had a variety of small cucumbers last year and whilst I got fruit, it was not as good as previous years.

Might consider growing stuff at the new house (we move house this weekend), depending on light, soil etc.

But realistically probably won't!

Am currently making more food though. Current favourite snacking food is getting a shitload of cherry tomatoes, cutting them in half and roasting them at a low heat for a while, with some salt, pepper and a drop of balsamic.

Make for excellent snacking food. So full of flavour. Om nom nom.

One of my faves! Try roasting them whole, on the vine, with cracked sea salt, ground black pepper and good olive oil drizzled on (ideally with a nice, whole wild-caught seabass whilst you're at it, with caper fruits and good green and black olives thrown in as well :D ) Heaven.

Yeah, we often have salmon with cous cous and roasted cherry tomatoes. Healthy and delicious!

Don't reckon that would work (not that you were being serious.) You need some Maillard reaction and to boil some of the water out.

One of my favourite dishes is roasted salmon (with sliced chorizo layered on top because have we met?) with cous-cous that has tons of raw veg through it. I usually do olives, cucumber, tomatoes, avocado, and celery.

It's not like you notice it as anything but crunch once it's in with everything else.

Gah. You haven't tried a buttermilk dressing Waldorf salad with a Pimms, in the garden with friends, on a perfect, warm, late May afternoon, lovely crunchy celery and all? Then you haven't lived. Everything in its place etc. :)

Put it this way, it sure as hell beats the crap out of oven chips and microwave rice pouches in front of the TV (or indeed faux McMuffins for that matter), that's for sure. :D :attitude:

Cavey, that you have lovely food and take pride and pleasure in this, I don't think anybody doubts, but you are perhaps starting to come across as a bit obsessive in your knocking of other people's choices. This isn't necessarily odd in itself, apart from the fact that you have already had a knock at another forumite for obsessing (though I could see but two mentions at that point from him, perhaps a greater number from yourself) about your chillies and their origin.

You posted to deride Hearthly's meal, which I doubt he went to the trouble to put together just for the sake of offending your sensibilities. Yes, he mocked you a little, but your mentioning of his class and 'Farmfoods' seemed to be judgemental and, worse, looking to cause either hurt or a backlash. But nobody rose to that, just carried on with their discussion.

And that's where it all falls down. You wouldn't let go that nobody would raise to it, so you restate your derision of microwave rice and oven chips, or whatever. Then someone engages (Myp) and you find your opposition. You start with a 'yawn' because you are so bored of the argument that you've been pushing for already, to show how, though you are striving for it, it is beneath you and not worth your time. Then, as you finally have your opposition, you feel justified to unleash calling people's dinners and breakfasts 'shit' and saying you wouldn't feed that 'shit' to your dogs, to prove that those people's choices are not just beneath you, but beneath the diet of your pets, all the while under some belief that people are obsessing about your chillies. By and large you don't have a problem with people living off McDonalds and microwave chips... but in this instance you DO have enough of a problem to say that their food is so shit you wouldn't give it to your dogs. Why only take this view on this occasion?

Here, four pages on, after the conversation has moved on you are so spoiling for a reason to go over again you have to try and bring everything back around to oven chips and breakfast muffins. Why? You seem to wind yourself up more than anyone else. Some days it seems like you just enjoy being angry as it gives a false justification for writing nasty things.

If you are a nice guy in real life you can be just as nice here. The internet doesn't have to be full of anger and nastiness.
