Yes, he did. We definitely can't do BBQ because we have a family thing but cottage is under consideration. Is London any particular time or just in general? :)

Hearing rumours (eg, in El Reg*) that the US are considering banning laptops in cabins in flights from Europe. That could disrupt a lot of business (and if it includes a Kindle, will annoy me know end).

Admittedly, I tend to quietly seethe when my boarding or alighting is delayed due to people putting huge suitcases on the luggage, but then I enjoy watching the stuff go round on the conveyor belt at the other end.

*don't tend to read it as much now as in the past. Seems to have lost its edge.

Funny banknotes too.

Yay to paying more tax on the value of the car if you took it in your own name and a payrise to fund the lease.

I've seen clients who have actually paid more tax on a company car than the cost of the car when the company initially bought it. That's absolute batshittery, and then they do it again because 'I want a company car'.

I guess that you can't really get out of it with JLR though, as their real cost of providing it to you is so much lower than giving you the cash.

A - Weren't they all killed?

B - Your biggest concern re violence in Deptford Bridge is no longer the government

C - Why the fuck would you come up the A2 from Cornwall if you're trying to invade London? Even 500 years ago the traffic round the M26 junction would have been murder.

The company I work for has merged with another, so some how the request for my replacement car has not been authorized. The lease runs out at the end of June. I doubt my new car will be ready :P

Yeah I'm not sure. I do intranet stuff though so it's not really my area but I wouldn't be surprised if it's something like that.

Ransomware really makes me nervous.

Seems to be affecting desktops for the most part so there really shouldn't be any loss of data. But it's massively disruptive.

The infection may have started on desktops, but if they have access to file shares it will encrypt the contents. Some sites are saying that there have been phone system outages, so it's definitely spread wider than just client machines, and it's entirely possible for backups to be corrupted as well.

In our case back office were shutting down everything as soon as it became apparent what was going on. So it doesn't necessarily follow that every system that is reported as being offline is actually infected.
