The unforgiving placement on the gravel is (probably) temporary. Although I think it's a good way to deter them wrecking the side netting and falling out.

Lady T wants to get rid of all the stones and lay some artificial grass. It's probably a good idea as it'd create a level space for the kids play equipment.

Got an A3 printer, for printing quilt patterns and little dress patterns so I can then spend more money on fabric and more time sewing!

I also got some storage for my hobby room, it lives under the Lego table. It looks pretty good and fits really well, so I got something similar for the other side.

Have you seen the projectors for sewing patterns now, Flis? You use a standard projector and set it up, calibrated to cast your sewing patterns down onto the fabric without having to piece or cut paper patterns or transfer them to the fabric.

No, I haven't seen those! I do quite a lot of foundation paper piecing for my quilts so I needed a printer for that, although I do like the idea of not having to cut out and weigh down patterns for little dresses, that would save a lot of effort. I think a light box is next on my list, although between cutting space, ironing and the sewing machine, I don't have a lot of room left!

Isn't the power switch for the Atari a rocker on the back left , if so how do you get to that to turn it on ?

It is indeed and there's plenty of space so it's easy enough to reach your hand in there to turn it on and off.

I bought a wall mounted thread rack so I could move my threads off a shelf and make more room for fabric. And then I decided to upgrade my thread and bought a few packs of brand new thread too. So now I have wall thread and cupboard thread and have created no new space for fabric.

Oops.

OMG. It’s gorgeous. I have a case for mine, which is more practical for my own space but nowhere near as pretty. Can I ask where your lovely threads are from, too?

I keep seeing these and thinking how lovely they are. There is so much dust in this house though I wouldn't dare.

Maybe you need a second wall rack to make more fabric storage. ;)

I bought mine from Aquascene where I got the kayak from. I bought the Baltic ones, XL for my size (6'4") and they are not huge, it would fit you fine. I'd go medium for the kids

They're Aurifil threads, they sell them individually or you can join a colour builder club and they send 3 spools a month or you can buy packs. I bought 3 packs of 12, a neutral one, an Alison Glass curated one, and a quilters one too. They're really nice to sew with. I have about 70 spools of cheaper cotton thread but it's not as strong and produced lots of lint so it was.alwaus the plan to upgrade, probably just not all at once!

I do produce a lot of dust sewing and doing my nails but I'm not too worried about it, I'm sure it'll come off easily when I'm using them or will come off with a microfiber cloth. I spent an hour today dusting my Lego so what's one more thing added to the list?!

I thought I was being posh with my Gutterman thread! Good for you though, it makes such a difference having quality.

Oh I'm sure they would be fine in most houses, it's just an this one. I put it down to the log burner, but we seem to get a lot of webs and dust all year round like some spooky mansion, I've never had it before.

Post subject:  Re: What have you bought?

Aurafil threads are nice! Gutermann are good quality, too. I was once sewing am with some cheaper thread and my machine was skipping stitches. I switched to the gutermann spool and it eliminated the problem, so it really can make a difference.

I remember sewing a whole dress once, ironing it, and it falling apart as if I’d never seen it, because my thread melted.

Author:  flis [ Mon May 03, 2021 19:43 ]
Post subject:  Re: What have you bought?

I have a few Gutermann spools too and I thought about building my new collection with those but it was just easier (I am lazy with shopping) to buy packs and Gutermann only seem to do 100m spools in mixed packs. I have been telling myself that the £ per m is great and that this is basically an investment!

Oh yeah, wood burners seem to create lots of dust, my mum has one and says the same!

Fold the sides in, start at one end with the valves open at the other end. Fold it tightly using your body weight. Fail, unroll it, and do it again, tighter. Then wrestle with getting it back into its bag
