I thought I'd have a quick go at bringing this roughly up to date for me. There'll be some Android stuff I can't think of and there's a couple of PC things there that I can't be 100% sure weren't done in 2016 but it should be largely correct:

1. Fract OSC
2. Her Story
3. Pony Island
4. ABZU
5. The Old City: Leviathan
6. The Beginners Guide
7. ISLANDS: Non-Places
8. Tearaway Unfolded
9. Unravel
10. Robinson: The Journey
11. I Expect You To Die
12. Deus EX: Mankind Divided
13. Wayward Sky
14. Arkham VR
15. Rise of the Tomb Raider
16. Gravity Duck Islands
17. Whispering Willows
18. Silly Sausage: Doggy Dessert
19. Lost Lands 2: The Wanderer
20. Shantae and the Pirate's Curse

Dammit, I've purchased and started Hollow Knight. Immediately I know it's gonna be good.

21. Agent A: A Puzzle in Disguise: a pointy-clicky-escape-the-room sort of a thing for iOs/Android but with a really nice look to it and very logical puzzles. So much fun indeed that after starting it on the train I picked it up again as soon as I got into the flat and rattled through it. The downside is it's not very long or very challenging, and the promised follow on/sequel has never arrived unfortunately. Huh, although I see now that a new chapter was released for iOS but never made it to Android. Dicks.

I loved the first Samorost game years ago but never clicked with the second one and didn't like Machinarium. Maybe I've just gone off point 'n' click adventure games though. I bought both DOTT and Grim Fandango remasters and haven't touched them. :(

25. What Remains of Edith Finch: a woman returns to her childhood home to explore the circumstances of the individual deaths of her family members. So far so Gone Home, and indeed in the opening minutes it does seem like this is going to be a walking simulator by the numbers. The exploration of the house is just a framing device though and when you get into each family member's room it kicks off a playable vignette that tells their story. These vignettes vary wildly in length, mechanics, mood and even graphical style but they're all engaging and excellent. You never know what each story will entail and the compellingly fanciful nature of them pulls you through the game in a way no other 'walking simulator' has ever managed. There was even a lovely little nod to the studio's previous game, An Unfinished Swan, that made me smile when I came across it. The way interaction is handled throughout makes it another example of something that just could not be done in any other medium which is always nice to see. The absolutely only criticism I think could be levelled at it is that £15 for a few hours is maybe a bit steep. Frankly I couldn't give a shit and thought it was worth every penny because but undoubtedly others will moan about that. Anyway, it's fucking awesome: go play it.

Some random thoughts:

Mad Max is one of the most underrated and is probably the best GTA clone i've ever played. Some parts are of absolute beauty and memorable, like the church in the middle of the desert and the airport.

Symphony of the night is not as good as most people say. It's too easy, and the second part really drags on. The Aria games and Order of Ecclesia are much better.

The first Witcher 3 expansion keeps the high standards of the main game. Absolutely sublime writing and characters and puts all the other AAA developers to shame.

A stunning and beautiful metroidvanian Dark Souls.

Not for casuls cause it's absolutely rock hard; especially that true boss. Actually I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't even kill him. I accidentally triggered the middle ending (there's 3) trying to wack the first of the two bosses so I could grab some magic for the last fight, like a dick. I kinda lost interest after an hour of the same guys so, y'know, I don't care. 39 hours and 90% completion biches.

26. Burly Men At Sea: a sort of point-and-click-adventure game but really more an interactive story with multiple paths through it. It looks and sounds lovely and is genuinely quite funny, but I wasn't motivated to get all the assorted endings because they mostly meant playing the same thing over and over with just minor different decisions. Not least because the further in you get the less obvious what those different decisions actually are so you could end up spending time going through all the same content and not even getting a different ending because you missed something.

It's nice to have some games that have a definite start and end point, as a lot of the games I play seem to never have an end, or release more levels all the time.

I don't mind longer puzzle games, I currently have Day of the Tentacle on the go, but I find it difficult to remember where I was sometimes.

I loved the art style, thought it was beautiful and creepy, the music added to the atmosphere, the main character had a fabulous little look (girl in a yellow raincoat), and I liked the running animation for some reason, lots of character throughout. One zoom out was astonishing good. The whole boat premise and the rocking levels was fab. The chapter select screen is real nice.

Downsides:

More INSIDE than LIMBO so no real challenge.
I found it a little too dark. Literally too dark, so much so that I had to turn the brightness slider up to max.
Zero death animations. LIMBO & INSIDE both had great deaths.
A little clunky feeling and button layout. The "use" and "grab" button could and should have been on the same button.
Some poor checkpoints.
It lacks the polish and quality of INSIDE.
Some dodgy camera angles.
The whole boat premise and the rocking levels was never really used. Timing a jump onto a gently swinging platform, check. Anything else? Nope.
No puzzles of any kind really. It's daft. Grab a key and open a lock is as good as it gets which is so lazy it's insulting.

But here's the real kicker: it's FAR FAR too short. 2 hours max. There's collectibles scatters about but no reason to get them. INSIDE had a secret ending and optional puzzles that you could find off the beaten track. None here. £16 for 2 hours is ridiculous for this type of game when INSIDE exists.

So it's goodish and worth playing but only when it's dirt dirt cheap.

Seriously, play INSIDE it's fucking amazing.

See, because I don't have much time to play two hours is attractive to me.

Firewatch was the same price for about four hours and it was glorious.

In that case, get INSIDE. It's only fractionally longer but much much better. Seriously, it's outstanding with an ending section that's just nuts.

1. Fire Emblem: Heroes (iOS) - completed Main Story on Normal
2. Overcooked (PS4) - completed campaign
3. Titanfall 2 (PS4) - completed campaign
4. Until Dawn (PS4) - completed story

Only managed to get out with two survivors (Mike and Emily) but really enjoyed this. A mixture of Resident Evil and a Telltale game.

27. Assassins Creed: Syndicate: I haven't touched an AC game since giving up on the original one after only a couple of hours way back in the day so I came to this pretty clean and, frankly, I fucking loved it. It still has issues with the controls at certain times which can be frustrating but you learn to live with and work round those pretty quickly. It's also slightly repetitive in that way only modern open world games can be but I don't really mind that as long as I don't play many of them in a short period. Those quibbles aside it's just flat out great fun; stalking and stealthily murdering a load of dudes never really gets old and with the grappling hook they've added for this game a lot of the set pieces basically turn into Batman Arkham style encounters which I'm absolutely fine with. The plot's interesting enough (although all the meta stuff goes completely over my head as I've no idea what's going on with the wider story) and most of the characters are well written and engaging. So, yeah, good stuff all round.
