We had about 5 minutes of moderate snow, then back to cold and wet. Not going to go to work on the motorbike tomorrow.

Not a single frickin' flake of snow here. Proper windy, mind

About half a quarter inch at most. It is still coming down. Left the AWD on the road, and the 2WD 6 feet beneath road level, again.

No snow but VERY windy last night!

My little boy really wants it to snow, he's never played in it.

We haven't had any snow sine January 2013 when we had a massive load of it (I was in Singapore for the full two weeks though). We had about an inch of snow last night, enough for the kids to play in, as they were desperate for a bit of snow. Also enough to cause me difficulties getting out of the village due to the lack of grit and the steepness.

Reasonably clear over the mountain this morning but conditions did worsen as I got closer to Douglas, then out of nowhere there was a wide strip of compacted icy snow right across the road on a bend, fortunately I wasn't going fast, and had already slowed down as my lights had picked out the whiteness on the road (it must have been a really bizarre effect of the wind as the road was clear of snow beforehand, it was all accumulated at the sides) - nonetheless the car did a proper sideways shunt and impressive looking icons appeared on the display which I think mean 'all my clever computer shit is saving your arse right now, fucker', and I guess the quattro probably helped too.

I got through OK but did think to myself, 'Someone is going to come properly unstuck on that'. True enough by the time I got to work and checked the IOM Police Twitter feed they had reported a car going off the road on that very bend. (No one hurt by all accounts.)

Crikey. That is a bit of a scare.

I did use ICE mode to get out of the drive this morning, and it went ok. I turned it off at the end of the road, as it was clear.

So, the kid couldn't sleep because of his imaginary monster. The monster saw this and bought him a star lamp to help him sleep. Or maybe his mum knew about the 'monster' and pretended it was from him.

I dunno. Nice tune though.

I haven't watched it yet, but I just heard on the radio that it's directed by Michel Gondry with music by Elbow.

Getting a bit self-important I think. The advert is now the event, and not fulfilling its purpose of advertising any more. It certainly won't increase sales at John Lewis by over and above the amount they've spent in my opinion.

I mean, let's say there's two universes where people go Christmas shopping, and there's the whole associated uptick in sales.

One universe is where they just spent £20m (or whatever) on a John Lewis advert, and one where they didn't.

Are you saying that the advert universe causes sales to go up by £20m more than it would have done in the non-advert universe?

Oxford has a John Lewis now. This is probably one of the most exciting things to have happened to the city since it was besieged by Parliamentary forces in the Civil War.

They don't seem to advertise on telly the rest of the time so it must help people keep them in mind. Having a series of adverts that's become a "thing" has to be something you'd be crazy to just bin off.

It's not just about the boost to sales though. The advert will be tax deductible. The advert will generate column inches in the papers that would cost fortunes in advertising. The chit chat spreads like wildfire on the information super highway, again saving a shit ton. It's well worth the money to them.
