This may be a silly question, but when manoeuvring like that, am I better with or without traction control? I drive an automatic so can not select any gear other than first in this situation.

I turn traction control off for snow/ice. Might just be "placebo" but it seems like it is slightly easier to keep traction - my reasoning is that on the snow/ice, you don't want the wheels to keep locking up at different times to try and maintain stability, as it'll just never happen.

Yep, it's about building any kind of momentum which traction control will prevent.

Where I am*, there is a bit of a cool wind from Antarctica occasionally, and I just went down to the seafront to see penguins. Little penguins, waiting for dusk to make a dash back to their nests. The weather is okay, though

Hnnggghhhh.....I WANT PENGUMS!! My bucket list has two things on it: touch a pengum and befriend a manatee. I’m not envious (much) but really happy for your little slices of paradise. Please keep sharing. Oh, and get a pengum picture, obviously :luv:.

If your traction control is less than fifty years old, you want it on.

This nice person will show you the difference:

I left my TC on getting the car out of the ice sheet that was Birmingham Airport car park 5. It worked really well.

My phone did not do a great job of videoing evening penguins, but what it got is on Instagram. To add to the want level, Tasmania's penguins are little, so are known as Little Penguins, or Fairy Penguins-cute, huh?

Raining in Manchester, now. If it freezes overnight it could be a city wide skating rink tomorrow.

Was relieved to see that the rain had washed away any snow earlier; went to town at lunch and there was barely a trace.

Just now, I nosed on Facebook at one of the local groups and there were snow pics up, so I assumed they were old ones, but turns out we've had quite the flurry in the past hour and we're back to where we were again. :(

Yes, it’s coming down hard here again now, and Russell is off galavanting in Lichfield.

Hang on, so someone reporting what's currently happened was useful as an actual reality check, not just great for those overseas wondering what is going on back at home? Unusual this is.

My neighbour texted me to inform me it was snowing again here. Once the curtains are shut if an evening there could be giraffes swimming under 10ft of water in the street outside and I’d not know.

:this: I've no need to look or go outside after lunch, so anything could be going on out there.

That's really quite pretty. Though I am lovely and warm as I look at it, which helps.

It certainly is when you've not currently got a front door.

Does the school specialise in aggressive banter and enjoying an over-inflated sense of social entitlement?

Hearing roads to Buxton are closed or treacherous. Looks like the kids will stay there for a bit longer.

The drive from Glasgow yesterday was interesting. Glad we did it then and not today though.

Kids still in Buxton. I had a lovely 3.5 hours in pub yesterday.
