Yet again you set of tossers force me to spend money. I am £69.99 further down now.

Definitely all your fault and not mine. Definitely.

Doom VFR is this week. Instabuy for me unless the reviews are somehow bad.

Spent all my virtual winnings on this gorgeous AC Cobra and took it for a spin in VR. Excuse the crappy, slow driving but this was my first go with this car on this track and also I was using the clutch and H pattern shifter which I'm really not used to in a game so I was fluffing gear changes all over the place.

But wow, what an experience.

Brands Hatch. And there's really no rush to get going. That's one thing with the VR aspect of this game that I really wish they would improve. You get one opponent car and I'm fairly sure it's being driven by my mum. I can understand the compromises to get it running at all but I don't see why you can't have a faster AI to race, or even just a time trial scenario where you can race your ghost.

That looks fantastic. I think if I was playing with a pad that’d mess up my immersion though.

Shame that the trees are just flat 2D models but I suppose you wouldn’t notice it much.

iRacing has 2d tree and crowd models too. I'd much prefer dynamic tracks and tyre models to wasting resources on scenery that you don't have time to look at anyway.

The crowds in GT Sport are actually 3D but in VR on the base model PS4 there aren't any, just a few marshals dotted around the place.

Lots of modern racing games have trees as two textures in a cross but this looked like it was just one lonely flat texture. I might be wrong but it just looked odd.

Ah right, yeah iRacing has two in a cross formation. Crowds are mainly one 2D polygon with some proper 3D members at the front for the newer tracks. Bear in mind some of the tracks were made in 2007. :o

That Rogue One VR X-Wing Mission in Star Wars Battlefront is a piece of wish fulfilment that speaks directly to the 7 year old me that sat in the cinema and watched Star Wars.

The sensation of sitting in the cockpit and then swooping underneath a Star Destroyer while taking out TIE fighters is exactly what I hoped it would be and probably more so. Small touches like turning round and seeing the R2 unit sat there or having to crane round to see the wings or getting the targeting computer out all add to the immersion.

Best thing I have seen so far on VR but probably because of the 40 year build up and years of dreaming that I could fly an X-Wing.

£15 from Tesco

or £8 from CEX

Easily worth the money just for the VR mission.

I'm not sure PSVR is blurry enough to pretend the everything is from Star Wars.

Definitely agree with this having now completed it with the Move controllers and in a standing position.

The ability to wander around (within a limited area) adds to the immersion but the bit that freaked me out the most was just using the Bat Computer to view the 3d models and then getting right up in their faces. I was half expecting them to open up dialogue with me the sense of reality was that compelling.

Doom VFR is totally fine at best if you get to play it on PC with a full HTC Vive VR kit. On that platform, the game's satisfying Doom 2016 elements collide with underwhelming VR optimizations and a wimpy runtime of a few hours.

Sadly, the game has also been shoehorned onto PlayStation VR, and the results there are almost impossible to recommend.

He discusses the problems with the Move controllers. But I'm not convinced from reading that that he's even played it with an Aim controller, he just says it'll make you sick, which it doesn't for me. The controls are a bit of a handful to be sure but after playing the training room that you start off in I was pretty much fine with it. Not even tried it since patching it either which is meant to improve some aspects.

I'd recommend watching the Eurogamer video where the guy plays it with an Aim controller for a couple of hours to get a better idea.

Thinking about it, rapid aim with vr must be quite difficult. Is the auto aim obvious? Or is it just difficult as you miss a lot?

Post subject:  Re: PSVR

Well it's harder than just clicking on faces with a mouse cursor like on a PC FPS but easier than using an analog stick. But the difficulties feel more realistic, when you miss it feels like you just missed, not that you moved a cursor too far with your joystick or whatever.

Post subject:  Re: PSVR

One thing they missed with Doom VFR, using the Aim controller you can turn the guns right round in your hand, but if you shoot yourself in the face, and it's impossible to not try doing it, nothing happens.

Has anyone tried watching a 3d blu ray on the PSVR?

The Lego Movie is only £3 on 3d bluray at the moment so I thought I would give it a go out of interest. Just wondered if anyone here had already tried it?

I'm not sure I could watch a whole movie like that if I'm honest - the sense of isolation and not knowing what the fuck the dogs are doing for a couple of hours, let alone the comfort angle, makes me wary.

Eh, seated cockpit experiences tend to be easier than full on first person stuff with free movement so I don't know that it'll be too bad.

I've never got on with any of the Wipeout games past 2097 (which I fucking adored) so as much as I'd like a go on this just to see what it's like I probably won't buy it as I'd never get my money's worth out of it.
