I mentioned my mate ran The Arcade Vaults in Cardiff, where you can turn up and play on old (and new) consoles and ting. Doccy G and I went, it was pretty cool and turns out we suck at games.

Anyway, they're doing a videogames quiz on Friday. Turn up (virtually, obv) and shizz.

I was working at Game when Perfect Dark came out. One of our customers had bought it from another shop in the morning, decided he didn't like it and traded it in at our store around lunch time.

He only lost about £30 on the whole deal.

Well the game gear was an overrated peace of shit to begin with anyway...

Got my pc engine mini yesterday, as a pleasant surprise.. (have my amazon at an old mail address i rarely use so didn't have any shipping confirmation and it had been months since ordering)..

Played some nice shooters,, sapphire is really nice in an early nineties demo scene / air wolf kind of way ... (and aparantly difficult to get normally)... nice little discovery project for the next week..

And i can just switch cables with my ones mini so it doesn'take much space

Basically all the evidence says he cheated - even evidence which had sat online for 10+ years showed the game loading levels up in the exact same broken way that *only* MAME did

No one is saying he's not a great player or that he could not do some / all of this stuff legit what is being said is the videos that he sent to 'prove' this to Twin Galaxys were created using MAME

This thread is about the best match I can think of for this.

I bought COMMAND & CONQUER REMASTERED the other day (£18 on Origin) because I do like a bit of gaming nostalgia. Amazingly, as I was playing it Mrs Hearthly came in from the other room and said 'Is that Command & Conquer?', she hadn't even seen it, she literally just recognised the music and voices, on a game I last played sometime in the late 1990s.

Anyway, I digress, the SINISTER ALGORITHMS that rule our lives suggested this NoClip documentary on YouTube to me this morning, and I know some folks here like his stuff.

Enjoy, it's a fascinating and informative watch! :)

I'd always play Jungle King if I saw it in an arcade. Simple, but fun gameplay and there wasn't much else around with the sampled sound effect at the start. If I wasn't playing that, I'd be looking for a Phoenix cabinet. :)

I’ve got one of those C64 minis. It’s a nice bit of plastic but, fuck me, I’ve no idea how I played games back in t’day because joysticks suck balls. And this hasn’t got any plastic suction cups on the bottom neither so it’s bloody annoying to control.

Playing Boulderdash (fuck me I love this game) I’d just about managed until I need to actually move accurately and quickly then it was a joyless bag of shit because the little twat wouldn’t go where I wanted him to; the fiddly piece of shit joystick being the culprit.

And how the fuck did anyone get off the first 3 screens of Cybernoid with a joystick? Fuck me. Shooting AND moving? No you ain’t.

I suppose what I’m saying is? RMD alternative controllers to play on this please because it fucking stinks at the minute when I clearly should be having all sorts of groovy retro fun.

The button are you used for entering the code you'll find when completing levels... can't remember it is just for the level of for the whole game

That looks terrible and I'm basing that on 1) the trailer not being funny. Was it supposed to be? and 2) That guy with the beard in the thumbnail. He's a YouTuber and I find him immensely annoying.

Still, best of luck to Ashens. He's doing alright for himself it seems.

There are so many sounds like that. The one of the baby laughing, the "metal crunch" sound when something crashes, castle thunder, etc. Obviously the Wilhelm scream is probably the most famous.

Post subject:  Re: Arcade Games & Random Gaming Nostalgia

The baby laughing is off the Lenor advert and also featured in Trolls on the Amiga. Really annoying.

The gate opening squeak/sound is the one that follows me around. You'd know it if you heard it.

A *lot* of the sounds in Gloom on the Amiga were sampled pretty much wholesale from Aliens - the doors opening/closing is the stasis tubes opening/closing, the grunts screaming when you shoot them comes from the nest attack sequence or when Bishop is being impaled etc.
