It seems that Nintendo have stopped production on this to concentrate all their efforts on the Switch. But then I've seen a rumour this morning that the SNES mini is on the way. This should come as no surprise as I've been seeing the rumours ever since the NES mini was announced. Anyway, if it does go ahead I would heartily recommend ordering one. The NES mini is fetching silly second hand prices so if you want one.. order one. |

I'm keeping it as is. I have a modded Wii connected to my telly that can play any NES game and can also use the NES mini controller so there's no point really. I'd like to keep the NES Mini in original condition. One day, it'll be worth a fortune and when I'm long gone... my kids will be able to throw it in a skip for me. |

I've seen several YouTube videos of these and I would approach with caution. If they're the same models, the 600 games are full of knock offs and duplicated games. Still, for £40 I'm sure you could have some fun with one. |

I totally understand the appeal of retro gaming - I love to have a go on old games from time to time. What I don't get is the appeal of things like this - especially when you can already play all the games anyway. |

I can play all the games anyway on my PC and Wii and possibly several other consoles in the Command Centre but there's just something nice about having an official product with a nice front end that just works with absolutely no messing about. I think the official part of that is important. In my eyes anyway. I've been emulating stuff for years so it's nice to do something with Nintendo's blessing for a change. |

Someone like me (  ) can get a retro fix quite easily, but Johnny Console-Fan might not have even thought about Mario Kart since they got a PS1 on their tenth birthday and would be excited to play it again. For a twenty-something with disposable income, the price is peanuts. The same as one AAA PS4 game these days.

I've done loads of SNES emulation, but this is the first time there has been a commercial grade emulator, with solid performance & nice UI/presentation on a small form factor device that supports the SuperFX games (which Nintendo have actually never emulated anywhere). NERD (Nintendo European Research & Development) are a solid team, and they've put out lots of great features/products so far. Nice shell plus two high quality controllers make it a good deal. If I could just download the emulator to use on my laptop or phone I would do that, but that is not an option. |

None of the Super FX chip games have had any kind of emulation based rerelease. There was the GBA version of Yoshi's Island, but that was a full port that didn't reuse any of the Super FX2 code (and whilst a competant port, the SNES version is better), and that has been the basis for all other rereleases (like the 3DS Ambassador version, and Wii U VC release), but whether it was a technical hurdle or licensing issues with the chip design, they've never emulated it until now. To the best of my knowledge, none of the other Super FX or Super FX 2 games have been emulated officially elsewhere. Interestingly enough, the SNES mini has a hidden option to overclock the emulated Super FX chip, which will smooth off the framerate of games like Starfox/Starfox 2. It's not a massive difference, but I don't believe this feature is available on any other emulator (and it should also improve performance in other games like DOOM and Stunt Race FX). All the retro stuff I play has been perfectly playable via emulation on PC for years, but there's just something about that that doesn't appeal to me. I think that apart from Steam, I'm not really big on playing games on a PC. With my Supergun/MVS 1 Slot setup, I can use either Neo Geo or Mega Drive pads with original MVS or JAMMA boards and it just feels a little more authentic. Or just more fun, I dunno. I do like unusual bits of kit though. I bought two of these recently - Attachment: game-n-go.jpg for £12.18 for both including shipping from Malaysia. Partly because I wanted to see what you got for such a low price and partly because I thought it would be cool to have a little handheld famicom. As it turns out, the games ended up being crappy original games and odd stuff like the Graham Gooch version in the photo above. |

Spent a nice morning hackking my snes mini... was easy with hackchi... nice little corona exercise.. . wanted to put sensible soccer on it.... didn't work.., ionly ntsc version work... but: i discovered sensible soccer had been released i the us on the snes, but called Championship Soccer'' 94, giving it a little USA"94 link... (reminded me of the world cup carnival fiasco) ... and that the goalkeepers are terrible.. |
