Any guesses on what we'll see - will PS4.5 / Xbox 1.5 be announced

What new games or remasters of old ones do you think we'll see ?

There won't be any Star Citizen, because they're "too busy", despite their main marketing and PR headquarters being a literal 15 minute drive from E3.

No. They won't be announced until close to launch, because they'll kill sales of the existing hardware stone dead. Rumourmill is pointing towards Sep/Oct for PS4K and next year for Xbox 1.5. So I think June is too soon to talk about them.

We may see a smaller Xbox One and/or an Xbox streaming thing like the SteamLink, though. I also think MS will make announcements to tie Win10 and Xbox closer together; ultimately, I think the plan is for Xbox to become a games store and set of platform APIs running on Windows, and (if there even is a hardware console by then) the console to be a sort of SteamBox thing running a minimal OS with those APIs. If that's correct I think we'll see some hints at it at E3.

I'd be surprised if the rumours and leaks haven't had their effect already. I certainly wouldn't have bought a PS4 if I'd known they'd pull this. And I think I am done with games consoles.

I've given up on watching E3 and buying into the hype. Most of the stuff I get excited about gets cancelled or scaled back...

Saying that though, I would like to see more on Crackdown 3. That does look ace!

Or you could just play ABP Reloaded instead. :insincere:

So with the Neo stuff getting a backdoor mention : viewtopic.php?p=908694#p908694 and 'not at E3' does this give Microsoft a chance to push their one now ?

I think an Xbox one 'slim' is pretty much assured but could they get more out of pushing 1.5 now since the PS4.5 will be at least a year out

I'd be tempted by the Skyrim remaster. I missed out on it first time round.

Surely Morrowind needs a remaster. Even Oblivion. But Skyrim? Nah.

Watch_Dogs 2 looks surprisingly fun, with a much lighter tone than it's rather po-faced progenitor.

Well Microsoft put a lot of effort into convincing people to never ever buy an Xbox.

Sony just announced a bunch of exciting games, but very few of them with release dates.

Is it easier to program for? Is it more popular than the other two?

I don't know, I'm merely speculating as to why they've decided to do it.

Skyrim 360 and especially PS3 had a lot of issues.

And it's going to have (limited) mod support on consoles now.

Spider-Man games is from Insomniac (Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, Sunset Overdrive), not the Infamous dev Sucker Punch, although there was rumours that it would be Sucker Punch prior to the announcement.

They've said it's all in game, too. Although I don't to what extent that implies it's all properly interactive or whatever.

Has there ever been a brilliant Spiderman game? Sure there's been good games (I can think of at least two) but none that I would class as brilliant.

I really liked the GameCube one that had Bruce Campbell doing the tutorial.

I think it was this one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider-Ma ... video_game)

Spider-Man on PS1 was pretty good.

Spider-Man: The Movie 2 (I believe that's the one you are thinking of Grim...) was the first open world one, and it absolutely nailed the swinging mechanics, but the combat and missions were pretty weak.

All the subsequent open world ones (there has been maybe 6 or 7) had far worse swinging, that was simplified and far less fun. You didn't really feel like Spider-Man. There's been some decent Metroidvanias on Nintendo handhelds (the ones made by Griptonite, who since were folded into mobile F2P dev Glu). I only played the first of the Beenox games but I thought it was pretty shite.

These games were clearly made on the cheap, more intended to be merchandise than a decent game. All published by Activision.

The new one is a solid dev, and Sony are publishing it themselves. I believe what happened is that Activision's license expired, and Marvel's new owner Disney opted not to renew it. Then (presumably as part of the negotiations for getting Spider-Man in the MCU movies), Sony was granted the license. It's not tied to the movies, so they aren't restricted to being consistent with the movies or working to that schedule.

Sony are obviously motivated to make it a good game more than any third party publisher would be, where it's just about making something that they can sell to kids quickly and cheaply, but Sony are going to want to use this to shift consoles, so it needs to be something special.

I believe that the PR mentioned the possibility of it being "games" rather than "a game", although it's not clear if that's multiple Spider-Man games, or other Marvel characters.

Edit: I think they want their own exclusive version of the Arkham games. And Spider-Man is perhaps the only comic book hero with higher sales potential than Batman, if in a similarly solid game.

It's Kojima, what do you expect?

I'm wondering if it's a 'spiritual successor' to Silent Hills, given that Reedus is involved. What a way to say #FucKonami that would be...

He hasn't ruled out Del Torro getting involved either.
