An ex girlfriend of mine from 20ish years ago (rare breed, we still communicate) is a doctor currently overseas in a very troubled area. Superb cellist and alto singer, too, we met at a Radiohead concert and were in a choir together.

The Other Child (15 months) fell off the bed and landed on her head (She also cut her ear on the bedside table but this is incidental to the story). Anyhoo: she's got this lump on her neck with a bruise on it. Otherwise seems absolutely normal. I am not worried but the Big Dog was making noises over it all, so i said I would ask if anything should be done. So i hit this lass up on facebook messenger and get over it all. (Part of me sometimes feels bad over this in a "here's what you could have won" way, but my ego knows no bounds). She says no real cause for concern but keep an eye out.

3 days later and there's this massive light red expanding patch on the top of the kid's head. I'm shitting bricks over this when i see it and start typing out a long message as to just what i should do and how should i explain it away to The Authorities. I am convinced it is a fractured skull bleeding out under the skin. I'm about to hit send and bounce this panic to the other side of the world and MrsA appears, holding the red paint stained clothes that were the casualty of the day's painting at nursery.

My sons first day at school was slightly tainted. We all got there early and my son was running around the playground whilst we both looked on proudly. Then over came the headmistress and asked if she could have a word... My son has been at this school for the last 18 months in nursery and for the last 5 days in the school holiday club as nursery closes for a week to let them get set up for the new term. It turns out he has been having a shit in the urinal trough for the last 5 days, the head had ascertained that he knew this wasn't the right place to do this and told him next time he had to clean it up with her. She was asking us if this was ok, I said of course he needs to learn. I know exactly how his mind works, he will have gone in there the first time and found all the toilets occupied , so rather than crap himself he went for one in the urinal, then after than he would have thought this is easier that the normal toilet So once that was over and she went I could burst out laughing was getting hard to hold it in After that my little boy got in line with the others and looked very smart in his uniform as he went in for the start of 14 years of school

Still not 100% mobile, but really looking forward to the Big Event That I Have Hardly Mentioned At All On Facebook tomorrow. Going to get a van to North Yorks to pick up The Display Equipment, help tje artists set up and doors open in the afternoon! Theb full day Saturday. Last time over 2,000 people a day came.

Popped back at 6pm and it looked good, there was a queue to get in. This is so much better than day to day job.

So back to Nay stuff really but the offspring is back in hospital. Yay stuff hopefully soon though once the Docs have done their thing. The infection has got worse having briefly gone down so that's like an episode of House where the patient gets better briefly before relapsing, vomiting blood and losing a few vital organs. Only hopefully it won't be that, or lupus. She's had diarrheoa, temp of 39.2 and the infection markers in her blood have spiked so they have put her onto a stronger dose of antibiotics to try and shift it. Should the antibiotics not work then the worst case scenario now is they have to open her back up which could have complications for her bowel and give her a fairly big scar. Doctors assure us we probably won't need to get that far but the minute your parent brain hears that it's where you constantly keep ending up in your imagination. Stupid brain. She's lost 5lbs since she's been in there and she was already a skinny thing as it is and she's going to miss the first 3 weeks of high school as a minimum. She's rather down about it all now and I don't blame her. Happy Monday everyone!

Aww, what a beautiful little minch she is, bless her. Sounds bloody awful, poor thing. And you must've been absolutely beside yourself, Trousers. It's horrible sitting there, unable to help them, you feel so powerless. She'll be fully fed up soon no doubt!

A variation on the above happened. Despite surgery being the "absolute last option" she went in for surgery on Tuesday with a number of possible outcomes ranging from not very invasive to Seppuku followed by a jet wash with Fairy liquid and then shoving it all back in. I can't even begin to describe the feelings when her Mum rang me on the way down to the hospital to talk about the options and risks. I'm not one for road rage but I sat there in my car screaming swear words at the absolute top of my voice like I was in some kind of Berserker rage. It wasn't at anyone in particular just a howling protest against life in general. Thankfully they were able to get a tube into her through her vagina(!) to drain most of the infected pus from her insides. The tube fell out during the procedure and they were reluctant to put it back in due to further risks so she's still got some infected material inside her. This is currently being treated with antibiotics. She's had to have IV food because of the weight loss and a lack of appetite following the surgery but as of the last couple of days she has got some colour back, perked up somewhat and has been dishing out the sass as only an 11 year old can. Her blood cultures came back today to indicate that she is on the right antibiotics and her general progress would seem to indicate the same but she's got better before now and then gone back down again so I'll only be in full "yay" mode when she's been given the all clear. Oh and her uncle bought her a Nintendo Switch because he's crazy loaded and has been through this kind of thing himself with one of his brood. So deffo Yay for her there. So anyway here she is doing a mild Yay from her hospital bed. Hopefully she'll be out of that soon and able to start high school. Attachment: 21731194_1491710280864469_5155303312092386772_n.jpg

The surgeon said up to a month after the op but she seems so much more lively I am hoping that is not the case as she is getting a bit sick of the hospital as you can imagine.

So slight Nay in that she's still in hospital but she is definitely on the mend now - the infection is abating and with a bit of luck she will be out of hospital in a couple of days. I've been meaning to say for a while now (been on holiday), that though it's a major worry what your daughter is going through, it's important to remember how bloody serious a burst appendix is. My mother suffered one years ago and ending up spending three weeks in hospital recovering. The doctor said at the time that if they'd got her under the knife only a few hours later she may not have survived. Basically don't worry about the amount of time "shorts" is spending in hospital, just make sure she's properly fixed before they send her home.
