I did my CBT about 6 years ago. I fell off the bike while doing the car park bit, because I'm apparently an idiot, but once I got the hang of it and went out on the roads I too was terrified.

Vowed never to ride a motorbike from that day on. Too many idiots on the road, myself included ;)

Motorbikes are big, hard, clever, and make you more attractive to all genders

I kinda feel the same as this, but by the same token I now want a little bike to go bezzing around the roads to see if the terror dissipates with experience.

Yes, it does. But you must never get complacent.

Is that a genuine suggestion for a complete novice?

The instructor was talking about the Honda Varadero 125.

In all honesty, just get the bigger licence asap, and get a commuting 500cc thing. Cost would be about th let same and it is better. It is what I should have done

I think I’ll learn how to balance at low speeds properly before I commit automotive suicide. I’ve only had a single day’s lesson!

On the plus side, it made me hyper-aware of other cars on the road, which I feel has made me a better car driver too.

Can confirm, you are excellent when it comes to giving other road users space, particularly cyclists etc.

Shame about your road positioning though.

I’m on holiday in Cornwall, and have a lovely view over the village including the local church.
Unfortunately the bells ring ever 15 minutes night and day so sleep can be interrupted.

Whereabouts?

They’re probably situated inside the church tower.

Correct pronunciation is 'Foy', just in case. But I think you already know that. And note Looe is next to Flushing which always amuses me.
