I was going out for a singles night. Mali told me the surest way to pull was to say 'What's this?' while covering your nose, then say 'A polar bear hiding in the snow'. He then proceeded to send me variations on that picture, including one from MrsA at one point, for about the next week.

I've moved down to Kent for the summer for a job, and bloody hell - everywhere I go, vote leave posters, leaflets, everyone I work with is firmly "leave". I really didn't expect so many people in one area to support leaving the EU.

That is not what I said. I said I hadn't expected such a large concentration of people who wanted to leave in one small(ish) area. Of course there are people (idiots) who want to leave the EU in Scotland.

Whereabouts are you? The countryside tends towards leave, the cities tend towards remain. Rough rule, but fits fairly well.

Kent voting for leave is moronic. Our agreements with the EU are the only thing keeping the French checking travel documents on their side of the tunnel. If we leave the Calais camp will be in Kent.

I was more referring to the Scottish leave uk vote as directly analogous to the UK leave eu vote. The same small minded, perceived slight mentality for the majority of leave voters in both cases.

Never mind the bookies, how do the hedge funds feel about the recent swing to Leave?

£20bn wiped off FTSE100 yesterday, £80bn in last three days.

With nine days to go to the June 23 referendum day, uncertainty gripped the markets after a YouGov poll for The Times showed Leave seven points ahead of Remain.

Phone and online ICM polls for the Guardian put Leave six points in front, while an ORB survey in the Daily Telegraph gave the Brexiters a one point lead. The Sun newspaper also came out in support of Brexit this morning.

Bookmaker William Hill said if the trend towards continued towards Leave, a Brexit will become the favourite in the EU referendum outcome by the weekend.

On that note

Quote:
In a contradictory finding, three in five Brits – 61% – say that they would be willing to accept a short term economic slowdown in order to see EU immigration controls tightened, which Brexit would allow.

But a significant majority of more than two thirds – 68% – at the same time insist they are not willing to lose any cash at all personally to reduce the number of migrants coming in from Europe.

I am glad that this is the intellectual standard of people who will be voting in this referendum.

One of my favourite West Wing episodes is the one where Josh keeps wandering around saying "58% think foreign aid is too high, 51% think it should be cut" for the entire thing. It takes a while to work out what he's going on about then when someone asks him why he's so fond of that statistic, he shrieks out "Because that means 7% think it's too high but shouldn't be cut!!"

That was almost the argument. The Sun quote was

Quote:
Shares in UK firms in the FTSE 100 rocketed by a fifth after the UK left the European Exchange Rate Mechanism in 1992. John Higgins of Capital Economics, writing earlier this year, said it was partly due to a fall in sterling, “something that might occur in the event of a Brexit”.
