I'm a bit like this at the moment. IW is paused on the ultimate cliff edge making anything else in the universe right now a bit like wasted effort.

Did they get the Black Panther animation team on that space fight cause that looked like trash.

We are due an Avengers 4 trailer shortly, I wonder if they did Captain Marvel first because she'll also be in the Avengers 4 trailer.

I'm not sure I can fully articulate the way I'm feeling but it seems like the stakes keep getting higher and the super heroes more powerful and the music more tense and dramatic, and yet instead of 'wow she can fly in space and shoot lasers and shit that's amazing' my feeling is one of mild indifference, as she's clearly going to save the day by overcoming a struggle and becoming even more powerful. Probably by flying a bit faster through space or shooting a bigger laser out of every orifice and limb or something.

Also, as Craster says, back to IW with some real risk and danger of loss.

Maybe after all that it'd be nice to have some smaller scale adventures where it isn't the whole world/galaxy/universe/multiverse in jeopardy. Or maybe some simpler powers, but smartly used.

I read this nodding along and then immediately considered the plots of each of the Iron Man films and reverted back to wanting the universe to be at the edge of extinction.

Isn't Captain Marvel ultimately about a brainwashed super soldier rediscovering her humanity?

With explosions, face punching and slo-mo, natch.

This is why I prefer origin story superhero films as I find it far more interesting to see how a hero or villain gets their powers as that tends to involve more in the way of story and drama. Once everyone is all powered up, it's a load of dull CGI fights from then on.

That's certainly an amusing way to phrase it and I chuckled.

Iron Man 3 was a bit pants (although I enjoyed Ben Kingsley in it) but I personally thought 1 and 2 were good fun and liked them.

Other than the trailer, I know pretty much nothing about Captain Marvel. I genuinely don't know if much of the general movie-going public would either.

I don’t think most people knew of/understood/gave two shiny shits about Black panther, and that film just kept getting bigger audiences after week 1.

Iron Man 3 is my favourite Iron man film. I think all the films in the MCU after Avengers Assemble are better than all the films in the MCU before Avengers Assemble.

wrt MCU films with Iron man in, it goes something like Assemble > Civil War > Infinity > Homecoming > 3 > Ultron > 1 > 2

Yeah, but BP was distinctly average, people just liked it because it was "cool" to like it...

Hey, I never said it was cool to like it. It ‘was’ average (I’d say below average, really), had a boring main character, stupid nano suits, a crap plot with a pointless ‘death’, zero risk to the main character, was tremendously boring and had awful CGI.

Them’s the highlights.

I remember wondering how the hell Ant-Man was going to get out of the microverse at the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp. I wonder if the whole 'the laws of physics don't work normally at that scale' thing is going to be part of the overall plan to reverse Thanos' shenanigans.

There's a really high chance that whatever they use as a get-out clause is going to be a similar level of eye-rolling horseshit. I expect to enjoy all the character moments surrounding it all but if they come up with something genuinely clever and interesting I'll be amazed.

If you mean recasting, I doubt it.

If you mean killing off some of the OG Avengers, and having a few retire, I very much imagine so.

I think Stark will die (maybe not before creating an AI version of him with his voice that can control a suit), and I think Cap will retire (maybe to come back in a Nick Fury-eque role many years down the line).

Hulk ain't gonna die but Ruffallo might retire and they can just CGI him without needing to do any motion Capture. They only just got Thor totally right with Ragnorok, so I imagine he'll get another solo movie, but maybe stop being an Avenger.

The New Avengers being made up of Black Panther, Ant Man, Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Dr Strange would make plenty of sense.

I do think Endgame is going to be his movie, especially given the role Red Skull played in Infinity War, and how he was a fairly minor part of it.

Post subject:  Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe spoiler thread: discuss all films

Not sure how Cap could ‘retire’ unless he gets broken in some way. He’d never be one to shy away from responsibility. Maybe he gets turned into Weedy Steve Rogers. That’d do it.

Maybe some of the OG Avengers get left in some other dimension or something.

But yeah, there has to be a degree of sacrifice or it’ll be lame. I just don’t want any of them to die (other than War Machine, who is literally the worst).

There are rumours that Bucky and Falcon are gonna get a tv show on the new Disney streaming service, I think, but it is just conjecture at this point.

I think bringing through a new generation of heroes would be cool too. Like Ms Marvel, Squirrel Girl and stuff. Or it could all get crazy if they bring in the X-Men. And I think they’re going to do something with Eternals next too.

They have earned my trust for now.
