I just noticed now, after more thinking about buying the switch someday, that the joycon doesn't have a proper d-pad. WTF?? This makes no sense. I'm mostly into retro platformers, and now my interest in the console is almost 0. Was it really hard to have a d-pad instead of those buttons with arrows?

I had this concern but after using it, it's not really a problem. The buttons can still be used like a D pad and it's not as cumbersome as it looks.

Haven't tried it with a TV yet as there isn't one in the house yet.

Mario is pretty joyous so far. Apart from that, Zelda, Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart, what should I be looking out for. I see NBA Playgrounds is 50% off at the moment, any good? Can I justify triple-dipping on Rocket League?

Thanks, but I said "apart from" because of course I'll be getting Zelda, MK8 and Splat2.

Slight niggles: the wrist straps are very tricky to get off once you've put them on, and the release buttons don't actually do anything to assist in this mode. You just have to make sure they're unlocked and pull hard, which I didn't want to do in case I broke them.

Solve this problem by not using the wrist straps.

I guess you need them for some two player games as it gives you extra shoulder buttons.

Sorry, I thought you literally meant the strap that goes on your wrist, rather than the buttons themselves (which I do use, but without putting my wrist in the thingy)

It's a party game. Great fun for showing off the Switch and the controllers but it is of limited longevity. Only get it if it's cheap I reckon.

You'll be able to buy the games separately on a single game card/cartridge and the templates for the cardboard will be made available as free downloads for you to make up the parts yourself. You will though also need to provide your own string and rubber bands. I can just imagine this being covered on Blue Peter ........

I've just read that this is apparently, not true. They won't be offering the templates to download.

The Switch is DS levels of good.

I'm really starting to think it may become my favourite console ever made. It's at the very least, the best first year of any console ever.
