Bought Mario Party in the eshop "sale" as I thought would be a good time with the kids, only to discover we can't use our third pad. Each player needs their own Joy-Con. Didn't realise every game was bloody motion controlled.

Finding it very hard to convince myself that Mario Party is worth the £30 game + £60 extra joycons outlay.

Huh, so some companies are now releasing games on the Switch but as streamed-only versions:

https://www.engadget.com/control-hitman ... 06591.html

I kind of thought a bigger deal would be made about this leading up to it, but it's just been sort of snuck out there.

even worse, it doesn't work with the pro as well, even though that has motion controls..

I see Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath has dropped down to impulse-buy territory of £8.99.

Has anyone played it on Switch? I adored it on Xbox, but the PS Vita version I played was pretty ropey.

Whelp, I finally bought Mario + Rabbids after an eternity of mild temptations in repeat sales and gosh, it's pretty good! In fact after a few hours play I think I (whisper it) prefer it to XCOM. It's actually my first Mario game on the Switch too and wowsers, Mushroom Kingdom looks awful nice to run around in. For some reason it also looks fairly lush as a 1080p displayed on my 1440p with everything getting a sort of satisfyingly only-very-slightly-soft plasticine look. The main stumbling block on buying this was the Rabbids themselves, as I tend to loathe anything Minion style, but they actually translate well into this and there have been a few chucklesome moments thus far. The plot, such as it is, makes sense too.

Anyway, battles are brisk, fun and easy to restart if you realise you're going about things wrong. The jumpy-heady-movement mechanic is excellent and really opens up play, which probably has Firaxis mildly gnashing their teeth that they can't plausibly get hulking armoured resistance fighters in their game to jump on each others heads to flank snake-men and what-have. There's a nice exploration element too with light puzzling in order to pick up coins to upgrade weapons, and find hidden chests with bonus goodies. This works really well, as the puzzles fit seamlessly into the Mushroom Kingdom environment and you want to solve them just as part of exploration to see new vistas, to witness silly things going on and simply out of the simple joy of puzzle-solving. The fact that coins fly at you and chests open up is a happy bonus. Good lord, is this really a Ubisoft game where collecting things doesn't feel like gruelling treadmill work?

So yes. Mario + Rabbids is on sale today at £11 but the sale ends this very day, so if you're thinking of buying it I say snap it up now. It's good times.

My first Nintendo related Autumn sale. Titles that are tempting me are Fire Emblem Three, Civ 6 and Link's Awakening. I've ruled out Xenoblade as I suspect that it would take a horrific amount of time. Any thoughts as to which one you'd go for, Beexer's? Any titles grabbing your fancy?

Also xcom 2, incl war of the chosen, for £15. I already own it on pc and PS4, but having it on a handheld is unmissable IMO. So I've bought it again.

Am wondering if i should buy links awake ing. Love the graphics style but not a real zelda fan

Cheers! Think I'd rather save pennies and get the Mario Kart AR for the finite yet charming fun that would serve up.

If there was a choice, I'd go for the Mario Kart VR.

It is however, about 6 or 7 times more expensive than an Amiibo.

Oh indeed. It's a lot of saving the pennies needed to scale up from amiibo to the mario kart thing. Could have a useless amiibo army for that price.

Yep, that Mario Kart looks ace.. I'm sure she'll have loads of fun with it.

It's not the same, but if she's just after the Amiibo functionality you can get Amiibo cards off Aliexpress or Wish. I bought a set that works with Zelda: Breath of the Wild and they work perfectly.

Nice! That's very good to know. So essentially Amiibo's give access to exclusive DLC, enabled either by a card or a statue. Starting to make more sense.

We managed to get amiibos working by naughtily downloading files and using an android phone to write some cheap NFC tags from Amazon.

Got the animal crossing set and the Lego dimensions set ready to tag whenever we need to invite a new camper or play a new level respectively.

Obvs this is not true for any policemen reading

If you are willing to be naughty (like we weren't officer) the cost is more like 10 for £3

I don’t really see the point. The models are really nice but the stuff you get in-game from the NFC chips is largely pointless fluff.

So that red Nintendo Switch Icon on the main menu is a bit ugly (why is it not in style with the others), but what does it do.. often it gives a blue dot like there is news, but It is just a little overview of your status, (and a commercial when you're not yet a subscriber) is it? or am I missing something?
