Anyway, Best of three. Round 2, Malc wanted to be captain. First person on Team Curio that wants to be captain...

And my favourite mental image was that of Malc taking a slug to a knife fight.

The fact that he was actually English makes this a bit hard.

I'd like a punt at captain.

Yeah, I knew what you were getting at. (Shotgun slug and/or fist fight slugging.) But the first image was that of a mollusc sword. Which was great.

As Mimi said, it is TECHNICALLY CORRECT, and we know what the best kind of correct is, right?

Also, I thought he was foreign. The Holst family certainly were, they just emigrated to England.

Either way, European composer and pianist Gustav Holst...

"I'm going to go for 'night'!"

:D

It can't have been that obscure a clue - DavPaz guessed it in the first post, and Gaywood, Mimi and Bobby all agreed that it fitted!

Suggestions of where else I could have got three in one round are also welcome.

"Places"?

(Jupiter, Europe, Forest)

It's certainly not ideal, though.

I wonder how many people would've known he was English. I always assumed he was Mid/eastern european from his name.

And checking it on Google would be naughty

the fact that one of the planets turns into "I vow to thee my country" might be a clue that he was English.

Holst for Europe is a rubbish clue, worth a try as we had to get something, but still rubbish.

Because they made a mistake :)

Holst - European
Holst - Composer - Planets - Optical Astronomy - Night

Which of these could be more tenuous?

:DD

But Holst is famous for his astrological suite, not for being European. If 'animal' had been there we wouldn't guess that because he was technically an animal. He'd be as much an animal as he is European.

Also, I knew he was British, but most of my knowledge about classical composers comes from University Challenge :D
