It was just going to decay in my loft. The guy who bought it is a collector of retro things.

Although he's just rung me and said it's not working. The first thing he did was open it up and pull out the accelerator.

Excellent stuff. The AP Archives are saved, finally!

I never understood why AMR doesn't archive every single page, every single advert, and every single Special Reserve catalogue index. Why have the capacity for completion and perfection in your grasp and deliberately ignore it?

Back when they were published, we would have skipped through the adverts to get to the content. These days, the adverts are one of the main things I want to see, as an illustration of life and prices in an era long since past.

:this:
I had a few speccy games delivered yesterday, and although it was nice to own stuff like Death Chase and Pyjamarama again, this little ad inside one of the games caught my eye the most -

Affordable recruitment - just stick a little bit of paper inside your game. :)

No email, no website, just an address and a telephone with the 01 prefix. For some reason, I always enjoy seeing an old sign or note that still has 01 as the dialling code for London.

I recently watched a 30 minute video of someone tinkering with their A500 (albeit accelerated, but it would apparently still work without) to send and receive emails.

Did I have an aneurysm or was there a secret release of the Bitmap Brothers Amiga game GODS currently floating around on the Xbox store?

Remember GODS? I thought it was decent back in days of yore. Better than Magic Fucking Pockets that’s for sure.

Turns out, I was completely lucid!

Here’s the trailer!

It has NEW graphics and OLD graphics. Frankly I’d rather have The Hulk tug me off aggressively than play this.

And the price? £16.49.

Go. Fuck. Yourselves.

How has anyone looked at the new graphics on the main character and thought that they've done a better job than the original?

Post subject:  Re: Amiga!

I never rated the original game back in the day, very much style over substance. Was clunky as fuck and very frustrating to play.

Gods was awful, terrbly slow shite.

The remake looks super-budget game tripe.

Post subject:  Re: Amiga!

Was Gods one of the games that viewers could play on Saturday morning TV shows by calling in and mashing their touch tone (surry, pulse diallers) phone keys?

I remember Magic Pockets was one, but there were others too. And it looked like an incredibly frustrating, crap way to play - even in the 90s, when crap was more acceptable/tolerable.

Weird Dreams was another of those.

I remember when there were some phone-ins where the caller would yell "up, left no..left, LEFT, I mean right, argh" and I assumed there was some unlucky sap holding the joystick and trying not to stuff it up.

But then, with the touch-tone version, I assumed in my naive young innocence that there was some sort of technological interface used to control it.... but was there? Either way, it was still a bit janky...

Post subject:  Re: Amiga!

No, from what I remember there was basically a guy behind the "screen" on the TV holding a joystick plugged in to the computer that was running the game, listening to the instructions being given.
