Getting a shotgun is actually considerably easier than getting any other firearm, as long as you have a valid reason for owning it. Home defense isn't a valid reason, pest and vermin control is, as is target shooting.

I'm listening to Radio Cornwalla gain, preparing to go to dry cleaners and apply for a job.

So I could apply for a shotgun and just say I want to shoot at targets? :DD

As long as I don't mention my targets are actual people...

I know of some guys who go lamping. I'm guessing they have legal firearms of some kind for that.

I've been listening to radio pasty again and they are talking about lapdancing clubs in Newquay and whether or no they are good for the town. So I emailed them this:

Quote:
The good thing about lap dancing clubs is that it they do enable young women to pay their way through college or university in a safe, yet exciting, environment.

I really have to get out of the house.

It does bring up a side point, I get really angry when stories say "They had no choice but to pay their way through college by stripping".

Fuck off, of course they did, because men don't get that choice and there's some of them at college.

What in reality they have is an EXTRA way to pay their way. If you don't like it, don't do it and you have the same choices as student age blokes.

Perhaps not - the laws on lamping are really complicated. It is legal, but only in very specific circumstances.

Then the men who are at college aren't the ones who didn't have 'no choice'. The ones with 'no choice' aren't at college.

Presumably this is not stealthy hunting of streetlamps? Or lampreys?

I think they do it on behalf of the farmers, or with their consent for keeping down pests, if that's a factor.

I didn't know what lamping was either. Now I'm amusing myself wondering what my idiot lurchers would do in such a situation, i.e., requested to be useful. Not much I reckon.

The problem with Southland Tales is that it's really amusing to describe, and even as I wrote I thought 'But this sounds great!'. But it's over two hours and it's just *rubbish*. I have absolutely no idea what it was about, what happened at the end, or... anything.

It is the follow-up movie to Donnie Darko by the maker of Donnie Darko.

Sorry - it's not a sequel, it's just 'the next movie by the same guy that did Donnie Darko'. Y'know how the ending of DD is a bit odd, and some people express confusion? Imagine that as a constant throughout the movie, to a power of 10. :(

I think he means the movie S. Darko, not Southland Tales.

"Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly is not involved with the film in any capacity". Which may be a promising sign..

NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York hotelier and real estate magnate Leona Helmsley left millions to her beloved dog, Trouble, but she has left billions for the care of dogs in general, The New York Times said on Tuesday.

...

The two people who had seen the document said Helmsley signed it in 2003 to establish goals for the trust that would disburse assets after her death. The first goal was to help indigent people and the second to provide for the care and welfare of dogs, the newspaper said. But a year later, she deleted the first goal.
...

Famously quoted as having said "only the little people pay taxes," Helmsley spent 18 months in federal prison for evading $1.7 million in taxes in 1989.

'The Credit Crunch' is driving me mad. People talking about the current financial situation in this country have no clue what it means. I even heard a supposedly well-informed news programme say that the cost of petrol at the pumps was a result of 'The Credit Crunch' - nothing to do with the price of oil then, dipshits?

Little green puffed-corn, sugar frosted dollar symbols.

They self-inflate when you add milk. Leave it long enough, and Meltdown!

There's also a lucky devil's tail shaped cereal in every carton.

But isn't oil getting more expensive because more people are speculating on oil as other investments are going down the shitter? So the oil price boom is a direct result of The Credit Crunch?

Nope. The two are linked, but the major factor is the supply restraints of oil. If the supply wasn't artificially restricted, the increased investment wouldn't have the price implications that it has had. From the other side, if the credit crunch hadn't happened, the oil price would still be rising due to increasing demand not being matched by increasing supply.

Partly that, but mainly supply and demand, I think. Demand has increased a lot, supply hasn't. You might say "peak oil" or you might winge about OPEC, depending.

Oh bugger. The guy who set up the server I've just sent my files to forgot to turn PHP error reporting on, so now I'm stuck with pages that don't work and I'm having to work out what the problem might be without any errors to guide me. Doesn't help that it's the first time I've worked with PHP 5, so I have no idea what weird things might have changed since 4.

This is the testing server. It's the only one I've got access to running PHP5 I think.

Anyway, I've been tracking down bugs using my eyes and it's going okay, but it's quite slow.

Pikmin 2 is even more charming than the original, and about twice as playable. Such a pity it arrived late in the Cube's life and got such a short print run.

I love the new Purple Heavies and the various weight based puzzles, and also the way they've expanded the range of immunities - red to fire, blue to water, yellow to electricity and white to poison. The underground sections work well too, although it could do with a "Resume from last save" option for when you really mess up and get all your Pikmin killed.

I the first time I was underground and the Pikmin started singing: :luv:

I often cut my fingernails while reading the internet - I use nail clippers, so this often used to result in fingernails pinging off and getting stuck in the workings of my keyboard.

Since I got the Apple Aluminium Keyboard, the closed design of which means that fingernails can't get under the keys, my cut fingernails never seem to land on the keyboard anymore.

Clear evidence of some kind of cosmic malevolence.

Incidentally, top tip - cut your nails behind an open CD case standing its spine - it'll act like a shield, and catch roughly 80% of the offending naily bits.

I got the shakes.

Anyway, I saw the movie Tell No-One last night. It's a French thriller based on an American novel and it's really very good, except that it's rather exposition-heavy at the end. You know those murder mysteries where it's all very puzzling until the end where Poirot says, "You, Monsieur Wetherby, you are the killer!" and then the killer goes into great detail for several pages explaining how he did everything? It's a bit like that. Still a damn good ride, though.

I can't reply as a guest, but I could give him a bit of advice.

Basically, sole trader unless he needs limited liability or wants the prestige of being able to say 'Ltd' after his name. The tax returns are massively more complicated than sole trader, however, but otherwise there's no immediate advantage for one guy by himself.

Unless he forsees turning over £50k+ a year, do not register with VAT, as it's a bit needless.

Sole traders require no interaction with companies house. You do however have to contact the inland revenue to register yourself as self-employed. If he plans to take no earnings he'll need a class 2 (or 4, I forget) national insurance exemption.

Most importantly, KEEP ACCOUNTS.
