I used to use quicksilver to quick launch things until I realised that in an X11 terminal

$ open anything.extension

Opens anything and so I didn't need it anymore.

It was (well, if you mean the Indian religious symbol that I didn't know the name of until your post), but it'd still look a bit dodgy on my desktop. I'm neither Indian nor religious, so I might have trouble explaining it if someone came around for tea...

Apophysis. It's an iterative fractal flame editor, like the one with GIMP. Except not shit. You don't need to know all the complex maths and that, you can just move some triangles about a bit until you make a pretty picture.
