I’m pretty sure all F2P games on PS4 don’t require a PS+ sub. Very few of them are cross-play.

They’ll get a cut of the MTX sold on their platform. These F2P games make bank, yo.

What about those people that originally paid for it (like me) I mean, I'm not that bothered as I've definitely had my money's worth out of it but I bet they'll be people complaining on the internet that they've paid for something that's now free.

Anyone who has played Rocket League online before the launch of free to play will be rewarded with Legacy status, which includes:

All Rocket League-branded DLC released before free to play
"Est. 20XX" title that displays the first year you played Rocket League
200+ Common items upgraded to "Legacy" quality
Golden Cosmos Boost
Dieci-Oro Wheels
Huntress Player Banner

In addition, if you've played online before this announcement, you will also receive the Faded Cosmos Boost. Legacy rewards will be granted once the free to play version launches later this summer.

They won't be making any money taking their cut of the actual game sales because 'free', and people can play these games on their platform without shelling out for the usual subscription. I must be missing something because it's not like massive corporations to leave money on the table.

And also they made it available on PS+ when it was first released, so had some kind of deal with Psyonix at that point anyway.

It’s not like a paid-for service going F2P is a precedent here, and they’ve given plenty of notice.

The notice would have only been handy for those thinking of buying it recently I guess. I've certainly had my money's worth from it and if all the DLC is going to be available as that earlier post says, then I might try and get some of the achievements that rely on it.

I'm not bothered with it becoming free to play at all and that DLC is a nice added bonus. According to my spreadsheet, I paid £15.99 for it on the 14th February 2016 so around £4 a year. I can cope with that.
