Considering all the spiel about how he "does the right thing" Corbyn's complete lack of action is mind boggling.

Dear MP,

Regardless of the merits or otherwise of the Brexit agreement reached on Thursday, I do not believe that one day of debate a couple of days afterwards is sufficient time for proper analysis and discussion of such a major upheaval to our economic and social relations. There is no need for such a rush other than to claim a short-lasting "win" in the media. Rushed policy-making seldom produces good long-term results. I would like to know if you feel the Parliamentary time set aside for this is adequate given the seriousness of the decision.

I would also be grateful for copies of (or links to) any impact assessments or other studies you have read on the likely effects of the new agreement on the economy as a whole and on individual sectors. These could either be those produced by the government or written by third parties. I think it is important that any commentary or debate on the agreement should be based on the actual text and its implications rather than on the politics and drama of it all

Hey everyone!

How long do you think MPs need to debate and review a complex piece of legislation pulling Britain out of the EU?

Yep! Three days. Fuckwits.

It's kind of poor form to write so soon and before receiving a reply to the previous missive, but I'm pretty angry now and this is mildly theraputic.

Dear MP,

I have just read that the government plans to push its Withdrawal Agreement Bill through the Commons in three days. That is simply not enough time for any MP to even fully understand such a complex and fundamental piece of legislation, let alone scrutinise and amend it.

As my MP, I trust you will reject any such programme motion and ensure that the Bill is given sufficent time in the Commons for proper analysis and debate. As a minimum, it should probably face a similar length of time as other European treaties.

This is not about leave/remain or soft/hard Brexit. It is about MPs being able to do their jobs properly.

Furthermore, in a similar vain to my letter of Friday 18th October, I do want to see all the economic impact assessments produced by the government relating to this bill.

Slightly fewer hugs and cuddles,

K

So angry you even included a couple of typos (Vain and sufficent) .

She'll clearly ignore it because of that, and not any other reason.

While you're right, I'd still disagree. Formatting should always seek to clarify rather than obscure, even if not technically correct. Pulling s into uppercase impacts the comprehension.

E.g. a personal bugbear is seeing ETFS rather than ETFs.

That all said, they should just have used sentence-case rather than all-caps, which makes you sound like an incontinent loon.

Actually, all caps was fine.

Ok, so the bill passed its first hurdle in the Commons (2nd reading). However, to rush it through the government wanted to pass a timetable controlling the amount of time spent for its remaining stages. The motion to pass this agenda has failed so it won't progress as intended.

What happens next? No idea. Tune in next time.

Comic sans is a deliberate tactic to get people to spread their stuff poking fun of it. They are using the same political consultants (Topham Guerin) that did the same thing last election in Australia.

For reasons of sanity, I avoided watching it live yesterday. Just skimming Hansard now. Very impressed by Corbyn's speech - might check to see if the delivery matches the content. Great retort to Iain Duncan Smith:

Quote:
Mr Duncan Smith:
I return the right hon. Gentleman to a simple fact, about which I am concerned. Does he recall that he once sponsored a Bill to repeal the European Communities Act 1972? Can he explain what has changed and why, in voting against this Bill, he will be voting against repealing the 1972 Act?

Jeremy Corbyn:
I also recall that I strongly supported the social chapter in order to try to bring social justice across Europe, and I just remind the right hon. Gentleman of his historic achievement of bringing in universal credit and all the damage that has done to so many people in this country.

Pigs in blankets and other festive meal treats might be in short supply this Christmas, the British Meat Processors Association has warned.

It says 60% of the labour force in UK meat plants comes from other countries and the industry is not attracting enough seasonal EU workers.

Its chief executive, Nick Allen, told the BBC that wrapping cocktail sausages in bacon was done by hand.

He said the job was "fiddly and hard to mechanise".

At the same time, the British Poultry Council warned that "finding sufficient labour is becoming a massive challenge for the poultry meat sector as the uncertainty around Brexit is prompting many of our workers to seek jobs in other countries".

It said that if the shortage of workers continued post-Brexit, it would "pose a risk to the affordability of British food".

Sat reading my book in the pub (Tom Holland's epic "Dominion"), I overheard a bore ranting about how the Lisbon Treaty means we'll be using the Euro in 2020 and conscripted into the EU army shortly after. Although I'm aware of this debunked crap, I felt it best not to intervene with "Well, actually...", but carried on reading about the massarce of heretics at Béziers in 1209 instead.
