Joan's and I have just booked to swim with whale sharks. I'm crossing everything that he loves it and I can get him booked in to do his scuba diving qualifications when we get back. :D

No pressure then. :p

I swam with small sharks of some variety in the Dominican Republic. Also rays. Oh, and dolphins. It was nice.

This year

Wales (Did this in June) it was great
Dublin (just wife and Kids) I'll be at staying at home

We are having our kitchen replaced from 20th August, so my wife is taking the kids to Ireland as we will have no oven, washing machine and a chunk of the house will be a building site.

As I will get to just whatever I want with my time whilst they are away its a holiday for me of sorts as well!

He would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!

We’ve just got back from a few nights away. Bean had some time off school as his school places their inset days mid-term, so it means we can go and do things when everything is quieter and cheaper.

We stayed in a yurt in Carmarthenshire, in the middle of a forest dwelling. It was just us, no electricity, showers in the woodlands, building open fires, sleeping amongst the noises of the animals and the rain. It was really, really lovely,

It was a wonderful getaway, and well overdue. Hard to believe it’s just a normal Monday now.

That looks wonderful Mimi, reminds me of the log cabin that Jem and I went to last April up near Loch Lomond -- similar kind of set up, off grid, surrounded by woodland. A great way to disconnect from the hustle and bustle and reconnect with nature and those around you!

Glad you had a good time

Thank you, and I agree with everything you said. It was good to be almost forced into a slower pace without something needing our attention every 20 seconds.

To be fair the spiders were happy enough outside not to bother us in any way. When it rained we found a few small slugs and a woodlouse inside, and they were quickly re-homed.

I'm not sure I'm up for wandering through the woods for a wee in the middle of the night, but that does look like a great holiday

There was a compost loo about 50-100m from the yurt. There was nobody else there and I managed to be brave and go to the loo by myself at 4am (last time I went camping I had to keep getting Zardoz to take me to the loo at night because I was scared of going alone. Alcohol had been imbibed, and he kept saying he was going to take me for a ‘lovely wee’. ‘I’m going for a lovely wee’ is now standard phrasing in our house). Anyway, I digress… because it was midsummer, there are barely any hours of darkness, so it wasn’t scary.
