I think the phrase 'packing a quad-core CPU' is entirely appropriate for GTAIV, considering that it will load a hyper-threaded quad-core CPU at 100% utilisation for as long as the game is running.

It actually caused my CPU to reach a higher temperature than the Intel Burn Test, which is a synthetic tool to push a CPU beyond what it would be expected to experience in any normal application.

Maybe Mali would prefer it if we called them four core? Or core core core core? Or coooore?

Maybe if I call it a 'Lauren Core' he'll feel obliged to irrationally defend whatever I say.

By the way, if you don't get this reference you need to read this story.

Oh, and as detailed elsewhere on this forum, if you have an ATI graphics card, there is a chance GTA IV will run like utter dog shit, no matter how beefy your machine is.

Fucking PC gaming ;)

It was contextual, GTAIV absolutely hammers the CPU. I thought I had my CPU safely overclocked but after a long session on GTAIV and dropping back to the Windows desktop, Core Temp informed me it had been within a couple of degrees of its thermal limit, which is hotter than even the Intel Burn Test managed.

Running GTAIV well on PC is a notoriously difficult affair, back when it was released the PC to run it properly literally didn't exist, as such there's a real sense of 'hardware versus game', even today, hence my use of the word 'packing'.

I haven't tried in the past 6 months or so, but it was still awful then. How long ago is ages? :)

There is a certain 'I have a quad-core CPU and it's in my pants' tone to it, admittedly.

It makes me think of Hudson in Aliens shouting in the drop ship about all the guns and stuff. Don't get me wrong, it is kinda cute.

Since I'm still off sick and bored, and my 360 is already packed (sigh), I will, for my own entertainment, attempt to install and run GTAIV on my Acer Revo R3700 'rig'.

It's packing:
CPU: Intel Atom D525
RAM: 4GB DDR3
GPU: Nvidia ION2

And multiple Heat Sinks.

BOSH!

Everything as low as I could get it, besides running it at 800x600.

I think I could've dropped the draw distance a few more clicks, maybe.

She's chatting downstairs with one of the other mums from school, I'm trying to limit my threesome fantasies as best I can by posting shit on here instead.

Playing Gay Tony and the golfing range torture shows a bit of originality missing from the other games. The golfing buggy shoot out turned out to be fun.

I hope they keep this up.

By the way, am I right that the city has changed some? I never noticed a golfing range before, plus there seems to be a lot more neon lights and bats that have opened up in town.

The golfing range was always there, as it's a landmark in New York too. Delete the DLC and load GTAIVvanilla and it's still there, was just never used.

I think the golf range was always there, it just wasn't possible to get inside. Likewise, I can't see Nico being allowed into Maisonette 9 unless he had Alex with him.

The story (as you noticed) starts towards the end of GTA IV's story which would perhaps explain the fact there's new songs on the radio, new TV shows and also some new cars available.

After being led to believe that Omid Djalili's role was 'hilarious', I was instead 'very disappointed'. Mohammed the car service driver is far better... I miss being able to call for him to pick me up in TBOTG. Trying to call the number for Roman's Car Service doesn't seem to work either.
