No, Roman's okay... it's just, he wouldn't have these debts (and everything wouldn't go spiralling out of control) if he wasn't a gambling addict. Unfortunately, he becomes like Charlie's brother in Two and A Half Men: a total clot who keeps doing such obviously wrong things that your sympathy starts to erode as you struggle to comprehend why anyone could be so stupid.

A word of advice: if you get hold of a car you like (there's one fairly early mission where you get hold of a BMW M3, a car you won't see again for a long time), don't use it on missions. Which is to say: keep your personal vehicle for personal use only (dates, entertaining friends, going shopping). The reason being that quite often cars will disappear during cutscenes. There's one mission in particular in the Bronx where the mission giver asks you to drive them somewhere. Once you reach the destination, the twat then takes the wheel and drives off in the car while you proceed with the mission. I was fuming!

San Andreas' story was all over the place (which is to say, huge amounts of it made no sense) but I just ignored the story once it went a bit loopy, and instead focused on the sheer amount of things to do, and the amount of tools they gave you to do them with (a jetpack, for fuck's sake. Or a Harrier jet. Or the car transporter truck/ramp)

I really enjoyed the story in GTA4, probably why I didn't faff around so much, just played through the missions.

Yeah, I was more keen to get the story done with before I started faffing around.

Partly because I couldn't read this thread until I did, and partly because you'll never be able to do all the cool stuff in GTA game until you've unlocked it.

Having said that, when I first started playing I liked messing around in Brooklyn so much that I only turned to the story when I ran out of things to do, and soon regretted how Niko's simple life came to an end.

There was a bit of confusion, you may recall, after Take-Two suggested it could be released as late as January 2009.

This ties in with what a secret source told us recently, namely that the DLC will be arriving in November. In the absence of any official confirmation from Rockstar - roll on November.

You dirty dirty boy. My Ma bought me some comfort foot insole dealies the other day. Foamish but okay for me to touch, but the process of rubbing a sock on them to get my foot in the shoe almost made me pass out.

Man I had a wonderful moment where instead of going to pick up a date I stood on the shore watching the boats go past all jealous like.

So I sniped one in the head, than swam out and took his boat. Used it to ram a better boat, and set off to find the statue of happiness, but saw a helicopter tours place and so went there instead and stole a chopper, then flew around the statue and then over the third island.

It's massively impressive stuff.

The rivers at dusk are mesmerisingly beautiful.

And remember, kids, once you get the safehouse with the pool table, you can take people there to play pool as opposed to the grotty rasta bar.

I explored gamfaqs, and the people there were saying that the DLC will be of the scale of vicecity.

Man are they going to be disappointed.

Still I'm liking the game so much I might pick it up if it's a reaonsable price, size and contentlicious.

I suspect it will just be a mission pack with a few added cars and bikes. And maybe a novelty item like jet pack or hand glider or something.

I really doubt they will do something as entertaining as a new island - though that would be awesome.

Sorry, linked to the wrong story really there, latest news and screens:

So a sort of isometric type thing, could be a winner I reckon.

In fairness, the DS has proven to be a fuckton more powerful graphically than the GBA. That GTA game was gash, total waste of fifteen quid for me, but then I loved GTA, see?

It was a shoddy game that used the GTA1 engine but with crapper missions and some horrible bugs.

Nothing could possibly be worse than the Game Boy COLOUR (yes, really) port of the original.

To their credit, they managed to cram all three cities in their entirety in, and presumably all the missions too.

However, that's about it. The controls were absolutely horrendous, with you having to push 'B' to walk forwards for some unfathomable reason. You could only look, move and shoot on the eight directions possible on the dpad, which didn't affect you enemies (so a baddy with a machine gun tracked you easily with his fire, while you struggled to get diagonal of him in order to fire back). The music was just noise... like the soundchip in a C64 was dying in agony. And, as the GBC was already struggling under the weight of the enormous levels, you'd only ever see maybe two cars at once on the screen.

Contrast this with the GBC version of Driver, which was fast, fluid and featured great car physics and loads of traffic. I took it back to the shop THE SAME DAY.

While on the subway tonight it got stuck in a station, and just sat there repeating the announcements but not departing. The rest of the game carried on regardless - people wandering around the platform (one guy on the platform told a girl that he imagined her boobs were like lovely soft pillows), the saxophone guy playing, trains coming and going on the opposite platform. Hell, I could even play with the phone, using the camera to look around... but I couldn't swap out of the interior view, nor could I actually get off the train.

I fixed it by calling someone on the phone... as soon as I did this, the train left the station. Unfortunately, when it got to the next station I was stuck there instead. So I fixed it once and for all by calling someone again, and then skipping to the next station.

So, be warned, and a fix.

I'd just done one of the car-by-text missions so was just killing time waiting for the next one to come.

Besides, it's fun going into the subway stations and pushing people in front of the trains.

They're not too bad, though.

Finished this this morning.

Took me a good 45 hours too. Which is a ridiculous long time to be playing the game. Especially when it is so very repetitive. I really enjoyed it, but I'm figuring it may well be a case of JRPGs - I get to enjoy one, before the grind gets to me.

Ending comments (MAJOR SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY):
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
I took out Dimitiri - figuring he'll come after us in the end, and when Pej killed Kate I felt rather bad. But I love Roman, so after exploring the alternatives, I'm glad I made the choice I did.

Also, when Brucie, Little Jacob and even Bernie showed up for the wedding, the did feel the most 'real' friends in a computer game yet. If you get me. Genuinely entertaining side characters is quite unusual.

Spoiler question about the Lambergini:
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Is the mission where you get one, the only time you can? I've never seen them elsewhere - and I do like it, but scared I'll accidentally lose it in the flakey parking spaces.

You'll lose it if you leave it parked, the game seems to randomly delete parked cars.

Best thing to do is take it out for a spin for a bit and then head back to your safe-house in Bohan, the street outside there seems to spawn multiple copies of the car you're driving a lot of the time.

Or call Brucie and start a Race and show up in a shitty car, and there'll probably be a few there you can steal.

Don't park it in the space outside your safehouse in Alderney, then... that is the flakiest of the parking spaces in my experience.

A good way to acquire otherwise rare vehicles is to do missions like the assassinations and cars-by-text deliveries.

I got the Super GT (Aston Martin) doing a Most Wanted mission - when I tracked down the criminals in a parking lot, it was one of their cars. Having killed them and finished the mission, I just jumped in the car and it was mine.

Don't forget you can still use the parking space in front of your safehouse in Broker, even though the safehouse itself isn't usable.

Ah thanks guys! I didn't realise the Broker spaces still work. Excellent.

Suprisingly I often found the best car to be the one with the weird windows that extend to the roof.

Post game it should give you a way to pokémon up all the cars and keep them in a car park or garage or something (like you can do in crackdown) that would be fun and useful.

It does make me wonder about the DLC - where can they go with Niko? I like his story line where it is. Maybe they will have a new character.

What, the one that looks like a people carrier?

I agree about the Pokemon thing... in GTA3 there were two garages where you had to deliver one of each vehicle and then, once it was completed, you could go in there walk into an icon and be given one of those vehicles as many times as you liked.

I suspect the new area will be Staten Island (or possible Long Island), and the story will either be more Mafia, or possibly something involving that people smuggler that was out to get Niko.

Nah, 2 door, eighties-esque and white. I'll try and find a picture.

Oooh, that would be perfect.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up about a new island until they announce it officially. It also makes me wary about the size of the DLC....

Well, think how huge Shivering Isles is (and the amount of new stuff in it) and it was under a gig. No worries!
