I'll still play both but my 'default' will be BLOPS , and of course i'll be playing more Zombies on this rather than the AW version.

I would not be surprised if they have some type of sale for the AW map packs in the next few weeks.

I'm sure they will

Get a PS4 !

I've played a bit more Zombies now and both maps are good , but i much prefer 'The Giant' , more because I know where things are and how the map works whereas for Shadows I'm still lost and wandering.

Few more extras for 'The Giant' - the Gumball machine does throw in some extra twists and the new hit mechanic (you can take 3 hits now without Jug) but the zombies are more vicious (runners at round 3) and doubleswipe more often
Double Pack-a-punching weapons gives them a special elemental ability - I had one where shooting the zombies produced clouds of fireworks (theres also a thundergun & a lightning type)

Playing Shadows with Saturnalian last night - we got a big Cthulhu type monster which spawned about round 8 yesterday which killed both of us - reminds me a little of the Panzer Zombie from Origins.
The map itself is much more like Mob of the Dead (which is one of my favorites) but I do think the 'setup' to perform rituals and open up Pack-a-Punch will mean that it may keep out newbies (and the fact that Matchmaking is broken buggers it up playing anything other than solo or with a party)

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2 ... three-days

Quote:
Black Ops 3 sells $550 million in three days

The Black Ops brand of Call of Duty continues to be a popular one with players. Activision Publishing today announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 sold through more than $550 million in its three-day opening weekend.

The publisher said that total bests the last two years' installments of the series, Call of Duty: Ghosts and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, but it's tough to say by how much. When Ghosts launched in 2013, Activision moved away from the first-day sell-through revenue estimates it had previously given to say it had shipped $1 billion worth of the game to retailers worldwide for the launch day. When Advanced Warfare launched, it skipped game-specific performance entirely to say the Call of Duty franchise had topped $10 billion in revenue. To find a bigger Call of Duty launch, one would (presumably) have to look back to 2012's Black Ops 2, which sold $500 million in its first 24 hours on sale.

Activision also emphasized growth in download revenues for Black Ops 3, saying digital sales of the game on Xbox One and PS4 were nearly double the number posted by Advanced Warfare on those platforms in its first three days on sale. On PS4 in particular, Black Ops set a record as "the best-selling digital full game by units sold in its first day of availability."

The publisher also touted player engagement, saying the hours per player three days post-launch is the highest its ever been for Call of Duty, with Twitch determining it as the most streamed and most viewed game launch of the year.

"Call of Duty's millions of passionate fans have shown us, yet again, the strength of their commitment to this enduring franchise," said Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick. "Call of Duty: Black Ops III is the biggest entertainment launch this year in any medium, and bigger than any theatrical opening weekend ever."

Get Advanced Warfare if you don't want to drop £50 on a game you might not enjoy. There's still a few of us playing it.

Anyone seen the Nuketown Easter egg?

Shoot all the arms off all the mannequins in under 2 minutes and they turn into zombies BUT if you look at them they stop moving. Just like the ghosts from Super Mario. It's pretty cool to watch but I haven't got Nuketown so ... fuck that map.

BLOPS campaign is a mess and a boring duck shoot but at least the levels are quite wide. On level 2 your obligatory mate, who never leaves your side, says "There's more than one way. Go left or go right." On level 4, in case you forgot, he says "There's multiple paths. Spread out" which was a bit weird as though the guy was suddenly one of the developers shouting one of their back-of-the-box Bullrt points in your face. I assume that on the final level he'll say "The DLC has more maps. Go buy it solider"

That's plenty freaky. How has that not been in a survival horror game yet?

I'm about done with the main campaign (I was actually done with it at level 3, naahmean) and it's been shit. Shitter than CoD:AW I'd wager.

I just came in here to say that it totally nicks an idea from Inception for level 10 when you go inside the mind of some woman. When you were first told you could extract information by sticking your hand on someone's face in level 3 it was only time before this was going to happen. When it did I was surprised they resisted the urge to do it until still so late and, yes, it's fucking stupid. Anyway, Inception, the world gets folded at some point (actually, it just happens - you never see it happen) and when you shoot someone they fall off the map as though gravity is to the left hand side. It's funny to watch and pretty cool actually. But that's it.

The level itself l, for some tedious reason, goes back to WW2 in an overly long wink to the player over the course of 30/40 minutes. LOOK WE USED TO DO WW2 GAMES. And, yes, you have to fire a rocket launcher that has to be sourced from the map in this single location at a tank. LOOK WE STILL HAVENT COME UP WITH ANY ORIGINAL IDEAS. I was almost winking back at the screen but my hands were too busy throwing the controller at the telly.

And then, for some utterly bizarre reason, it plays a bit of zombies in a tiny house for about 5 minutes midway through the level. LOOK WE DO THE ZOMBIES TOO. What the fuck has it got to do with anything in the game!? Nothing. It's just mind blowing bullshit. It's not even fun. I just stood in a corner waiting, blasting and reloadin before I'd eventually get the prompt to do something. Then it prompts you to shoot this thing out the window; you shoot; the level ends.

Treyarch hasn't ever improved on MW (or MW2) with its games no matter how much you might enjoy what their CoD games.

This CoD has the crappy jet pack that's nothing like the jet pack whooshing and zooming of Advanced Warfare and, bafflingly, they don't even let you use it in the main game!? AND the levels aren't even designed so you can run on walls since you need a perk unlocked to do that and it isn't given to you as standard. Just nonsense.

Plus, if that is the story, doesn't sound like it's one particularly worth worrying about being spoiled. Did they give plot writing duties to the work experience kid?

Ok, I've finished it and I didn't "get" that spoiler at all from my playthrough.

Turns out that to "enjoy" the full reveal of the story you need to read the insanely fast text that scrolls between levels.

'ere, this is quite a good video about it with the scrolling text and then some in-game stuff. LOOK AT THE SCROLLING TEXT.

Of course you're not going to read that and I suppose you could have "got it" by figuring out the game but, meh, I don't think I'm smart enough for this well woven story that I could have ever understood it all. And let's face it, the best stories are those where you have to go on youtube and slow down a load of text and look for minute details over the course of 6 hours. That video is 3 minutes long. 3 minutes. Each "hint" lasts mere seconds and I'm expected to extract those hints and retain them over 6 hours?

Of course they're not. 6 hours is an awfully long time to hold a bunch of disparate information together while you're shooting endless amounts of baddies. I'm sure it's all very clever and stuff but if I'm non-plussed by the whole experience then you haven't done your story telling right.

Mind you if that's the true ending, the ending that I experienced was...

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
...we go on a mission and I get some metal arms, then the AI goes nuts and takes over everyone and everything becoming sentient and I somehow manage to shut it down from the inside but Taylor's memory gets overwritten over mine in the final moments...

...and is an equally valid perception of what happened since I can't read super-sonic text. This twist is like a twist for those looking for a twist. I kinda like it being there (and being discovered so quickly) but I can't help that the initial death could have been done better than hidden away in some text before the fucking game even starts.

Questions.

Re: zombies as it is the only game mode available until the 3GB patch downloads.

1 - WTF is going on? Why does it now take multiple head shots to kill a zombie?
2 - Why are there massive unskippable cut scenes before AND after each game?

1 - Killing Zombies is the same as previous games - round one its a single knife hit or around 5 body shots , round 2 it doubles and it just keeps going up
2 - That is for single player only - if you play online you dont get the long intro cut scene (although you do get the one at the end) - again , thats similar to the previous game (BLOPS2) where playing single player gave you a cut scene although you could press X earlier to skip (BTW you can skip the intro scenes part way through just hit X - normally where the Dame is about to kill the guy on the bed )

Yip its dumb - you get part of the game to play around with then it slowly downloads the rest and those parts are multiple gigs of data

So what's the point in head shots? Other than they go down after 3 rather than 5. I maybe didn't play #2, but I'm sure that in #1 you could actually get them in one. I must suck, as when it throws about 8 at me at once in round two, I don't even have enough ammo to kill them all, and it is taking two knife stabs to kill them every time, so I die pretty sharpish.

I'm looking forward to playing it with other people. With just one it seems a tad overwhelming. And the cut scenes are so annoying. The first one you can skip after about 30 seconds, but the last one has no purpose (I'm gonna assume it changes if you get further and isn't just another 30 second grass watching simulator).

And in single player I don't want a 10 second countdown before I can fucking pick anything!

I played Zombies with randoms who knew what they were doing and they just buggered off without me while I looked around and still couldn't figure out what they were doing. I don't think I've once found the BLOPS3 zombies map any fun as no fucker will talk me through what we're supposed to be doing.

I preferred the very first map when you had four rooms and you just defended against waves and waves.

EDIT: oh yeah, and the no real headshots stuff is shit. There's no skill to shooting anything as they're just bullet sponges so the trick becomes picking up perks so you get more ammo or quick reload so you can sink more rounds per second.

Two things :
1. They will go down quicker so later in the game headshots will take them down quicker than pumping bullets into their bodies
2. Points - killing a zombie with a normal body shot is 60 points a headshot is 100 (and a melee hit 130) so when your point building you want headshots to gain more points

I'll answer Sat's post in a minute but the standard Map on here is not that great an introduction to Zombies , its far far too complicated and is not going to bring in those who are not sure on what they are doing - in solo you want to open up the first door and then start doing parts of the rituals on round one before things start getting tougher - and if you dont know what your doing then its get the points to get a better gun as quickly as you can

On WOW and BLOPS1 the standard gun is not really of use beyond about round 3 other than for points or when you pack a punch it and its the same here - dont exect to be able to kill zombies with it after the first few rounds at that stage you need a wall gun

I have a feeling the second one is going to play into stuff later but right now its just a grass watching sim

The Giant however is a great map - no faffing about - just fun zombie killing , however its only available if you buy the season pass.

(and you may well have played it before because its the map from WOW and BLOPS1)

I played Zombies with randoms who knew what they were doing and they just buggered off without me while I looked around and still couldn't figure out what they were doing. I don't think I've once found the BLOPS3 zombies map any fun as no fucker will talk me through what we're supposed to be doing.

Thats the real problem with it - its far too complicated for a newbie - and if you dont know what your doing your not going to last long - in all previous games there were options to get to know stuff before you get into the more complicated maps.

WaW had Nacht which is the first map you've mentioned below - BLOPS1 had Five (play in the Pentagon) and Kino (movie theatre) which both had some basic stuff to do but no big storyline
BLOPS2 had Tranzit (way to long and complex) but allowed you to play parts of it just stand alone - Bus Depot was very similar to Kino - one door and the box - Town and Farm had a few perk machines but no story to get in the way.

>I preferred the very first map when you had four rooms and you just defended against waves and waves.

I still like Nacht but i prefer some of the later ones where you can get Perks.

>EDIT: oh yeah, and the no real headshots stuff is shit. There's no skill to shooting anything as they're just bullet sponges so the trick becomes picking up >perks so you get more ammo or quick reload so you can sink more rounds per second.

Headshots are still there and still do more damage - having a good aim and a way to take them down is much better than just pumping bullets and apart from Deadshot (a perk which makes it more likely for you to do headshot damage) the Perks dont really help in that way - the main Perks are :

Juggernog - take double damage before going down
Speed Cola - reload twice as fast
Quick Revive - in multi player revive someone twice as quickly - in single player revive yourself when you are downed
Mule Kick - be able to pick up a 3rd gun (you lose it when you lose the perk)
Double Tap - shoot double the amount of bullets (so one single press of the trigger fires two bullets but your ammo only goes down by 1)
Stamin up - Sprint for longer
Deadshot - bullets are more likely to headshot (and if you snap aim it targets their heads)

I can show you both how to do some of the stuff in Shadows of Evil (although i've not done the whole story part myself) - but i'm not sure if it would really work for either of you.

I'm hoping the new map will be more of an introduction for people but i do think they are trying to hard here to make things needlessly complicated.

Yeah we did. I was shit, but at least I've sorta figured out some of the earlier things to do. Sweatyfatlass was a reet star and kept picking us up even we died which, in my case, was a lot. Sometimes s/he would pelt across the map to revive us from nowhere. God bless that sweaty fatty.

Not sure if you heard me last night but the other map you said you were fond of was the one with the area you could back onto on a gangway above the teleporter

That is "Der Riese" which was the last map for WaW and part of the classic pack for BLOPS1 , it is also the only other Zombie map for BLOPS3 (renamed as The Giant)

So you could play that now , however you would need to buy the season pass :-(

So for Shadows of Evil the start is

Open the first door , beast mode to get the summoning stone (box at the start) , power on the crane to get the pen , and hook up to open the first room
Do the summoning spell in there to get the first worm

Do the same for all 4 characters (in their areas)

Take the worms to the underground area and place them down to open pack a punch (every 2nd worm spawns a big monster thingy and every item collected spawns some floating guards)

You can also pick up stuff to build a shield , pick up fuses to power the robot defender , and harvest items to build the black hole gun thingy (all of which we (or SFL) managed last night).

The next part is going on the trains to shoot out special markers (that have now appeared around the map) - the wall SFL was pointing to is another bit you open up with the statues I think to get the Apothacron eggs which are used to make magical swords

So looking forward to Blops1 working on the Xbox One... I've missed playing the maps in it since my 360 broke.

So a bit like Origins where you get special weapons? I'll need to try this...

Come to the dark side ....

:-)

Apart from the issues with SOE Zombies has a number of nice new touches on the new systems

1) Gumballs make it possible to last longer and setup things easier (you can control max ammo drops / fire sales / etc)
2) You can level up guns , which allow you to have them start with attachments - so you keep playing with a gun , and when you buy it later it has laser sights / FMJ / Rapid Fire / Stock / Grip / etc - up to 7 attachments on each gun
3) You level up and then prestige (woo) - I'm prestige 1 level 10 or so
4) You can double pack a punch guns (same as BLOPS2) but this time its cheaper (2500 for the 2nd) and instead of getting random attachments you get a powerup (equivalent of the staffs from Origins) so thundergun / livewire / fireworks / etc
5) You can pack a punch the Wonderwaffle :-)
6) The Giant is as great a map as it ever was and there are a few new things added (wonder weapon for completing the fly trap easter egg)

Although the next map is known there are still rumors that we'll get updates of old maps (moon is the one specifically mentioned as in some of the pre-release screens for Zombies there was a different 'title' card for Moon which is unlike the versions in BLOPS1) and since the story is still Richtophen / Maxis / Samantha then the base on the moon should still be a pivotal point in the story.

Yip - although the constructed weapon is basically a Gershe device launcher - train some zombies and fire it off and it opens a black hole to suck them through
