I have a PC, the monitor is connected via HMDI.
It has gained a problem, that when it boots past BIOS, the screen goes blank, when I connect another monitor via VGA, reboot it starts working again.
Is it the graphics card on its way out? If so can anyone recommend a cheap card, that has HDMI, VGA and DVI?

Sounds like a HDCP handshake problem. Try a different hdmi cable

I had a similar issue recently. Windows had decided to make my main monitor an extended desktop, without there being another monitor attached, and being as my wallpaper is black it took me ages to work out what was going on :D

Plug in both the VGA and HDMI monitor at the same time, and make sure the HDMI one is set as the main monitor.

swapped cables, did not fix it.

Added a 2nd monitor, rebooted, all works.

Is it the card or windows 7?

When you've only got one monitor physically attached, how many monitors does Windows think are attached?

One, I have disconnected the 2nd. It only sees 1 now.

It is a Radeon 4800 if that helps

If you just have the VGA monitor attached and set to the primary display, does that consistently work OK whereas with the HDMI connected one it doesn't?

I don't keep the vga connected. But it worked fine last month. The hdmi seems to lose connection once a week or so.

We're troubleshooting, Kov! Try it out. You don't have to keep it there forever.

The hdmi works, just some times when I turn the PC on. It flashes up the bios screen, then goes black.

Did not have any issue with vga, will leave both connected for a while.

Not had the error since I connected the vga, but that was a few hours ago

I had this issue when I went to HDMI/DVI on a new monitor from my gfx card a while back. It seemed to be due to the Radeon drivers, as the nVidia card I had worked fine, except when the Radeon drivers were installed. The Radeon card never worked.

It has happened again, as soon as I connected VGA monitor, started working.

Going to leave both connected for a week.
